Big blocks make great boat motors, where power can be thru torque and a lower sustained rpm,
Your buddy has 1400 hp with 14 psi with a 509,got any track times to back it up????

BBC
World 427CI BBC 650fwhp Complete - $9,994.95
World 540CI BBC 750fwhp Complete - $9,994.95
Huntsville 540CI BBC 820fwhp Complete - $13,000
LS1
More Performance 427CI 720fwhp (Does not include PCM/FMU) - $28,900
MTI 427CI Super Stroker 600fwhp(approx) - $18,000
ARE 434CI ???fwhp (Long Block Only) - $13,200
Another problem with the LS1, you eventually run out of cubic inch at the mid 400 point.
I'm sure someone at one point in your life has told you "there is no replacement for displacement."

fastone you are the dumbest person i've ever met..... You think those top fuel dragsters are small blocks ? HAHAHA and they rev over 10k rpm. You seriously need to learn ur **** b4 u keep running your mouth! You have no idea what a BB can do. Any serious racer will drop a big block in their car and opt out the SB. The weight of the motor has nothing to do with it, because people with 402-408 iron block ls1's/lq9's are making awesome numbers and great track times. Like i said b4, learn ur facts son! The fastest cars in the world are big blocks NOT small blocks.

FASTONE...you are just plain clueless. Why don't you ask all the pro-outlaw/pro-mod guys why they run big blocks when small blocks are so far superior? Just don't be offended when they laugh hysterically at you.

If you get your block fully machined, bored, alignhoned, magnafluxed, decks squared, crank and rods blue printed, balancing, head work, flow testing on heads, valveguides, seatwork, engine assembly, cam degreeing, checking clearances, etc=easy 2 grand!!

Yea, okay dipshit... Thats why my dads 396 bored .060 over, crank balanced and a mild comp cam with heads(ported to over 500cfm) and everything else u metioned and an 870 vaccumm sec. carb is making over 650rwhp. This isnt even full roller or solid roller. all done for less then 4k by machdevelopment.com

Also, the gentleman who built my fathers motor is well known throughout drag racing and nascar for building bad *** motors both BB, SB and even the "all mighty"(in your eyes) LS1

The question was street driven,I"ve seen 700 ci pro mods run, like 4.5 in 1/8 mile with a ton of NO also seen late model Mustang with Chevy smallblock with a turbo and no NO run 4.65 on the same night same track this car could be driven on the street not 2300lbs like the fiberglass pro-mods.
You guys are taking this way too serious,I"m glad to see theres guys that love bigblocks too.I know bigblocks can be very fast,I was just trying to see how many bb fans were out there,I've owned bigblocks before too.

lilbuddy1587, you can"t even buy a 500cfm bb head and btw a .060 396 is a 402 and I think you mean a 780 vacuum Holley, also a 396 is the least desirable of all bigblocks no cubes and a ton of weight.Oh yea got any track times of your daddys car?

If i put the money into a BB that i put into my LS1 it would be 10 times more fun to drive, there is no replacement for displacement and there is NOTHING like the torque that comes from a BBC.

I can't believe some people on this board are comparing an LS1 against a BBC. A BBC chevy will make 550 hp and torque with a small cam, intake and headers. Futhermore, a big block with a lighten rotating assembly with good heads etc. will out run a LS1 anyday. A good comparison would be comparing a SBC to and LS1, then we could have a legit argument
