Default 6.0 build

I traded for a 69 camaro that had a old school turbo engine in it. He kept the engine but I have everything else. I am going to build a lq4 with 243 heads and a carburetor. I already have the heads and I am going to look at a short block. Anything a dumb guy like me needs to look for?

Both of us got what we wanted. I traded a 71 firebird backhalf. Full chrome moly cage etc. I probably had 60k in it but still needed another 60 to get on the track. I'm just going to race my luv truck and have fun with this one.

Well I think I scored I found a lq4 at the local core yard. Weird deal completely rebuilt new pistons and everything. Paid 850 for it. Someone turned it in for cash. Looks really good but I'm taking it apart and checking everything. Along with the 243 heads I should make good power with it.

Well I need to make a decision. This engine is mostly going to be n/a although I might spray a little shot in the future. Trying to keep a budget ( yeah right ) I am doing way to much research and the numbers are running around in my head. I have the 243 heads that do seem to produce good power. But I have found a set of 883 heads for 500 bucks. Talking to my engine builder by the time I surface them, do a valve job, replace the springs etc I will have over 1300 in them. The 243 heads I will have over 1k. The dart 225 heads are around 2k but are ready to bolt on.
Like I said before I am putting a carburetor on it if it makes any difference. The car was set up for a turbo engine so has a lot of rear end work done as well as a stall convertor. So would it be worth it to get the dart heads?

Why would you have so much in heads? Just bolt them on and go.
The cheap 706 heads can make over 500hp with just a cam.
All you need is valve springs

Your right. I am just going to get a good valve job and let them eat. I love to make power I have a nice small block in my Luv that makes 700 hp all day long. Really dont need to go crazy with this car.
