Question 5.7 ls1 reuse stock pistons?

Hey there first thread here so sorry for any mistakes, i have a 5.7 ls1 im rebuilding with bigger cam heads and springs. I want to re use the (assuming stock oem) pistons so i went to clean them, i used some purple power which is an industrial cleaner it seems to made the skirts bare almost like took away the anti-scuff coating which im not to worried bout but while i was inspecting the piston skirts 1 out of 8 pistons has a hairline crack and a bend in the skirt i will provide pictures QUESTION IS: Can i reuse these pistons? obviously replacing the cracked one with a oem replacement. Or should I not risk it and buy a set of them new *i am kinda on a budget but id rather be on the safe side* THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP!!!

the bend

the crack

internals look okay?

skirts looks okay?

just a bit of surface rust from moisture outside.

First off- Your text is one continuous run-on sentence. Break it up into separate sentences with some capital letters and punctuation.
As-is, it is very hard to read and understand. Thank you

🤣

Now if one piston is damaged that means that there could be unseen damage to other pistons as well (ie fissures that only be seen with specialty tools) so me you id replace all 8. I know you didn't want to hear this but I've seen so many folks trying to circumvent spending money now to end up spending a lot more later. Again you can do as you wish but me you spring for new pistons.

If you replace the pistons, the rotating assembly must be balanced unless the new pistons are the exact same weight as the old. My local shop charges about $200.

Rotating assembly as in the crank rods and new pistons? even though they are all stock dimensions?

Dimensions mean squat. WEIGHT means everything when balancing

👆🏽This
these pistons are mass produced they are not especifically made so each piston is going to weigh differently ever so slightly thus the engine will need balancing.

Here is an English lesson for you. If you have cracked parts your engine has damage. You OBVIOUSLY do not reuse broken parts, dumbass.

The only way to tell is u have to check piston to wall. I think .002 If its more, no good. Are u honing or boring??

Jaces10, good call on replacing all of the pistons for this engine in my opinion. Sometimes folks skip balancing when replacing stock pistons with stock pistons. I wouldn't but there's many that do.

For what it's worth, one gets more quality replies when the post is easier to read using punctuation and capitalization.

Good communication skills matter and reflect on how one is viewed by others. I've see way too many people "self limit themselves" with poor written communication. In a work enviroment folks like supervisors and managers tend to automatically make negative assumptions about people when they encounter poorly written communication.

Just a heads up to raise awareness not intended as a lecture.

I completely understand that and if the guy would have said it like you have then the reply i had would have been different. And thank you i'm going to call my machine shop and see what he thinks about balancing it.

Do you see anything rude or unkind about the way I stated the above issue?
