Default Will a LSx cam sprocket fit a BBC?

This is a super weird question so I’m not expecting anyone to know, but in the off chance that someone might, will a cam sprocket from a 3 bolt LS cam physically bolt to a BBC cam? Do they share the some tooth count, and chain specs? An example sprocket would be the 12586481. I’m trying to add 4x cam signal to a BBC, kits are out there but not in stock. Trying to get creative!

You could convert to a Vortec style distributor with the cam sync built in. I believe it will only get you a 1x cam signal though. I'm not sure if they make an aftermarket dual sync distributor setup for 4x.

Yeah, unfortunately the distributor only allows 1x. I’m going 58x on the crank, so a 4x cam signal is required.

Will a holley dual sync distributor work, if you could find one?

The Holley Dual Sync distributor still only gives a 1x cam signal, OP is looking for a 4x/58x setup.

Personally I think the 4-bolt setup could be relatively easily FAKED off of standard BBC parts.

I'd get yerbasic good-quality BBC sprocket, some steel stock of the appropriate thickness (could be anywhere between 1/8" and 1/4" depending on the particular sprocket you started out with), and cut out acoupla half-moons and maybe acoupla little squares; drill and countersink some screw holes; drill and tap the sprocket to match the screw holes; and bolt the pieces on there with little short flat-head Allen or torx screws. Hardest part would be getting them phased right. Doesn't seem that it would be all that critical though, since all that the cam stuff does, is tell the ECM which cylinder it's on. Actual "timing" is determined by the crank gear.

Not sure what the mounting for the [mr.spock]sen-SORE[/mr.spock] would look like exactly, but as long as it didn't interfere with the water pump, it couldn't be too terribly hard.

OP, what is your current setup for the 58x signal? Is it a reluctor that is in front of the timing chain, or is it bolted on the damper?

It will be a 58x reluctor that replaces the stock 4x one, so internal behind the cover.

The "4X" is not the reluctor. They are either 58X or 24X. You are referring to the 4X cam sensor phasing sprocket. They are either 1X or 4X.

Gen 6 Vortec 454’s were. 4x crank/1x cam. Probably a little confusing since I posted in the LS section, my bad.

Follow up question, are you planning on using an OEM computer setup? If not, you could run a Holley with a 1x/58x if that's easier. The only other thing I would suggest is just run to a pull-a-part and grab any LS cam gear to see if it will physically fit a BBC cam. However, do you have a provision to mount a cam sensor in the cover?

It’s going to be ran with a Terminator X, but with coil-near-plug and no distributor. I’ll probably find a junked motor at the machine shop and compare to what I have already.

And yes, Chevy makes a BBC cover that has the sensors positioned for 58x/4x pickups.
