Having a hell of a hard time, its an M6 car and Ive looked on the forums for answers but I cant seem to get it, my electric impact keeps breaking 24mm sockets see pictures
and when I try and take a big breaker bar to
It, I put the car in 5th gear and it spins the rear wheels. Im stumped
One thing you can try is to take a mapp torch and heat the bolt up, just to melt any crusted up antiseize (or possible loctite) on the threads. I have found sometimes a hot bolt will turn easier than a cold bolt, even though it expands. Another thing I have found is the best penetrating lubricant available is a 50/50 mix of ATF and Acetone. You might try mixing some up and shooting some in there, and it might soak into the boundary between the bolt, washer, and pulley, providing just enough relief to allow it to move.
You may end up needing to put it in sixth and have someone stand on the brake pedal with both feet AND the e-brake pulled up.
I will tell you one thing I did ONCE on a late 80's BMW. I put a thick steel plate on the ground and got my breaker bar braced on the ground at the 5:00 position when facing the front of the engine. THIS IS THE DRIVER'S SIDE. Then I disconnected the fuel pump fuse and bumped the starter. Engine rotates clockwise, and the breaker bar stays still, so the bolt backed out. DO NOT DO THIS. And if you decide to do it anyway DO NOT LINE UP THE BREAKER BAR AT 7:00 (passenger side) INSTEAD OF 5:00 (driver side) OR THE BAR WILL SMASH THE HELL OUT OF ANYTHING IN ITS WAY UNTIL IT HITS THE GROUND ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CAR. This includes any of the following items being potentially damaged: battery, radiator hoses, water pump, radiator, alternator, main fuse box, antilock brake module. You get the idea. If the bolt is REALLY-REALLY fused in place, the ear on the block the starter mounts to could crack. Bottom line, don't do this. i probably shouldn't have even posted it up....
On the M6s, I remove the oil filter and put the largest L-shaped allen I can fit in one of the free flywheel bolt holes and wedge it against the block. Then use a 1/2" drive ratchet and my low profile jack handles for leverage, making sure the socket stays square on the crank bolt.
On my 6 speed 98 z28 i left it in 6th gear didnt have in impact had to use a 5ft pole on the ratchet or 1/2" breaker bar similar to chain link fence poles the break mine loose.
Gonna need much better sockets. Put it in 6th, pull the ebrake and have someone press the brake pedal. Gonna need a good, long breaker bar and cheater pipe. Spray some penetrating oil and let it sit. Use some heat. If you have access to a lift, lift it up and use the breaker bar and cheater pipe from the bottom. Good luck

Try 6th gear, with parking brake engaged. Also, what brand sockets are you breaking?? I know Craftsman has slipped a bit in quality since Sears sold them. Have you tried a Commercial grade, like Williams or Snap On? Either should do the job......
I have never had a problem with my impact gun but i don't know how much room you have with an fbody. You need a good impact socket. I will never use a breaker bar again after using an impact takes seconds.
I broke one torquing the crank bolt. Heart skipped a couple beats thinking I'd broken the bolt off in the crankshaft. Socket cracked right at the 140* mark so the cheap socket did it's job.

Same thing happened to me on my head bolts, broke a crappy socket, freaked out for a sec, then noticed the huge crack as it was spinning over the corner of the bolt head. Never been so happy to see a broken socket.

**** tools can be dangerous to deadly!!! I know a guy who put a 4 foot long pipe on a 15" Crescent style adjustable wrench. When it broke the wrench, he went over backwards, ruptured a disc, and fractured his forearm!!!!! Maybe a name brand, genuine Crescent brand wrench would've held. I know it wasn't smart to put a 4 foot pipe on any wrench, but I think you get my point. If that socket had cracked while spinning on an impact, it could've thrown a piece of steel at a very high velocity. Good tools cost more, but they're worth every penny!!
