HumpinSS - my heads are 245cc+. I don't have to rev a bunch. With the new Nick Williams TB I can actually cruise below 2000 RPM - all the way down to 1300-1400 RPM in 6th. FWIW.

Thought it best to handle business with Brian T. Need a set of bad *** heads for a throw down 427 solid roller. Interested? Have Brian call us at the shop tomorrow.

doubtful, its a cnc program, then a handfinish. they'd actually have to modify the program to work with the 225's, since the 225's have already been cnc'd @ afr. thats the whole point of getting them from tea....you skip the afr program in total, you just get all the benefits of the afr casting.

Obviously, Brian H or Brian T chime in if I'm totally off the mark

That's right. We use the bare castings before they're CNC'd at AFR. Obviously this program works. We have had a LOT of calls yesterday. I will be getting with Brian today on most of the calls from yesterday and finish working out all details. I forsee a certain TEA AFR headed car at the Thunder Shootout.

These sound awsome !! Need a test car ? I would love to see what kind of gains I would get over my current setup.

Is the valve stem a stock LS1 size?
What size spring pockets are you cutting in the heads?

I already have a set of stg 3 heads with ferrera 2.08/1.60 valves and I have Isky 1.550" OD springs and would want to reuse my parts (less than 500 miles on them).

What would a bare head (that has been fully machiened and ported) cost?

If you need a test car hit me up. I just finished my all bore 388 so it would be a good platform to get some dyno numbers with.

Two questions.

1) Any plans to flow them on a SF600 so that we can see how those numbers stack up against some of the other shops out there?

2) Is the CNC port you are using one of your existing programs for a GM casting that you are simply running on the AFR head, or are have you optimized a design that takes into account the improvements in the AFR head? Are you going into the floor of the port, opening the runner up, or doing much bowl work? The AFR head has a venturi in it that really narrows the runner down. Is that still in place or are you cutting that out?

I'm not asking for all your porting secrets, just wanting a better understanding of what improvements you are making to the head and if you care to comment on what you are doing, and why you feel it is the best way to move air in these heads.

LOL , Sounds like your talking to some of our competitors on this one, our flow bench is right in line with everyone elses. I have been flowing heads on this bench for 11 years, I have had my heads read BOTH HIGHER AND LOWER on SF 600 bench's. BTW, we have only flowed one competitors LSx head that broke 300 cfm on our bench and that was a LS6 head from CNC in FL.

Can't say

The head is 170cc as cast and this program is 238cc, so yes, we are taking lots of material out everywhere, most hand porters have never even taken 68cc out of one intake port. As a matter of fact, if a porter doesn't have a CNC they shouldn't even consider this bare casting for a production basis.

What venturi would that be? There should only be one venturi in a port and that is where the seat and valve are, and most people don't understand what really makes that area a venturi.

The CNC program offered on this casting right now is AFR's 205cc program that flows around 300 cfm and makes no more power then most good Stg 1.5/2 heads. We really don't feel like that we can do a CNC program on this head to help the average H/C customer, however, for someone that is serious about making BIG power on a stroker/power adder application, then this is the ticket, Kurt Urban has made 1560 with this same CNC program, so we know it works.
After Thunder Racing outlawed my raised runner heads, I went ahead with the AFR castings, as I knew they would hold a head gasket much better then any other LSx head. The best way to move air through these heads? Who else has a Stg 3 head that consistently flows 340+ cfm??? Not really saying it is the best, but I would say that I don't know of anyone getting this much airflow out of a LS6/AFR head.

The exhaust should be in this range. When we post flow #'s we go a little conservative, if we post the best #'s we have ever seen, then we have to try to match the best every time, which can't be done. Even though they are CNC ported, there are the variables of the valve job and the hand blending, we have even seen valves flow different from batch to batch.

LOL, go ahead and get that 427 stroker/big power adder combo you've always wanted and we'll hook you up!!

Glad to here from you, and I'm glad that torque monster is still around.

No wonder why you guys at TEA have been so quite on here lately. All that material you removed must have taken atleast 40 hours on just one head. Im curious as to wheather you flowed a cnc'd AFR 205 head on your bench. just for comparison.

How about a GP on these, I was going to wait for the AFR 225 head for my FI setup.

No flow #'s, we have had one on the dyno, it made very good power, the power was about inline with our best 5.3 heads, although the low end torque was a little down, just the opposite of what you would think. Maybe I should make a post about the dyno #'s of the AFR 205?

Brian,

I am considering AFR heads for my stock cubed, 9.3:1 compression single turbocharged '03 Z06. The camshaft that I will be using is a 228/223, .575 lift, 115 lsa turbo spec cam. After seeing your results, I am now unsure about which AFR heads to get. I was originally waiting for the 225's. I'm running 12-14psi on pump gas (94 Octane) and making about 650rwhp with my current set of ported ls6 castings and MTI B1 cam. How much would be gained/loss by going with your worked 205 heads vs. a set of your worked 225's?
