Matters how much drivability you want. There is no best.
I would think for some serious power a set of ported LS6 heads and a heavy 230+ Cam should be in your future.Talk to some sponsors on your goal and see what they recommend.TR and Joe Prince are good to start with.

When you say "you want to stick with your ls1 heads", you mean have your stock heads reworked to stage 2 spec?
if that's the case, TEA does good work.
Do you need to pass emissions?

I see you live in HOUSTON home of one of the BEST LS1 TUNERS on the PLANET-MTI BABY!
MTI all the way, they will get you hooked up, tuned and running right where you want to be. Look at RAUGHAMMER, in the 10s on stage II MTI LS1 head and C2 cam. Totally streetable and BIG POWER. An fbody A4 with stock heads just put down 390RWHP with the bad *** X1 cam which is an AWESOME aggessive cam yet 100% streetable. If you have the $ i would opt for the MTI stage II LS6 heads and X1 cam, good for 440rwhp on M6 and 410to420 through an A4. Thats tuff to beat considering you live in the same town they are located.
CALL MTI, ask for for RICK (the shop manager) and tell him the guy with the C5 they just built an ironblock 427 for(from Chicago) referred you or email JAYSONMTI@aol.com and tell him i said HI!
THEY ARE SIMPLY THE BEST when you look at the big picture of performance, tuning, workmanship, customer service and STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT 1000%.
Who else would build you a 600HP motor (at the crank) like they just built me and completely warranty it for 2 years or 24K miles, no matter how hard i am driving it or if grenade it going down the quarter mile (as long as i am not sprayin or using F/I) which i NEVER WILL as all NATURAL POWER is the way to go for ME!
Good Luck,
MTI 427 Roadster

I can tell you if you invest 3K or so you can get a set of Carteks ls-1 stage 2x heads and cam package and end up with a respectable 425 HP or so...and run in the 11's very solidly. On the cheaper side, yet great quality from what I've heard, Absolute or JPR are good head options. I went Cartek cause I knew from several others that the package just plain works..no guesswork, no worry. It will cost more and you may need to fly-cut, but I thinks its best to do it once and do it right. Then again, none of us do it once. Most of us are mod-acoloics. Next year I may sing the praises of Eastside, who knows.
