never done a vette, but you will really need 2 people to set the motor back in. It can be done alone, but takes forever. No lift for me..jackstands all the way

Pulled one myself out of an f-body in my garage with no lift. I would assume a 'vette would be easier though

seems like the hardest part would be lining up the pilot bearing with the driveshaft when reinstalling the motor. they have to line up perfect

That was the hardest part of dropping the short block in, I got it lined up and had to rock the motor side to side a little and eventually it popped right on.

I haven't done it, but I would really consider droping the torque tube shaft and re-installing it after the motor is in. I think your swap would go much easier.

I did my C5 swap with jack stands by pulling the motor from the top. Just had to remove the hood. Other than that, no major problems or hang ups.

Would this be easier than doing a heads/cam/clutch swap with the motor in the car?

Can you give us C5 owners any tips? Can you disconnect the ECU harness and pull it through the firewall, so you pull the harness with the engine? I've seen this done on some cars.
Or do you have to disconnect the harness from the engine? This can be a PITA.

I've done 4 in f-bodies and we just jack it way up and drop the k-member with tranny attached. I am not familar with the corvette driveline so I can't comment on that. Definitely need at least one extra guy when reinstalling to help line things up.

is lining up the shaft similar to putting in the tranny and hitting it in the pilot bearing, like we do in fbods? If so some jiggling will get it in there.

Is a camaro easier from the bottom or can it be done from the top?

Never a Vette but I have done my Camaro with jack stands. I also left my tranny in the car which was interesting to line back up, but not too bad.

I did mine out the top, and I'm doing another one this weekend. It really doesn't take that much longer to do and you don't have to f' with brakes and power steering.

Out the top isn't that bad. Just watch for all the wiring. Also the thing screwed into the back of the drivers side head. I cut off all the push though holders under the cowl! If you don't your arms will look like a junky!

One more thing, I don't think I would take my hood off again! I would just take off the shocks- supports and support it back a little.
