Hey guys,

I just bought a used Comp. Cam 230/230.581/.581/112 for my T/A. With it came REV dual valve springs and Ti retainers. I didn't know much about the springs at the time, but it was a great deal I couldn't pass up. After reading more about the springs, I just want to make sure they will be a good combo to go along with my cam. I've read about people having problems with REV springs (breaking), while others use them with no problems. My car is a weekend crusier, about 5000 miles a year, and will rarely if ever, see the track. I really don't plan on spinning the motor up too high, but want to make sure that dual springs are a good combo for my particular cam.

I've read a lot of good things about the Comp. 918's and think they would be good for my lift (.581). I'd really like to stick with the REV's(avoid the hassle of selling and buying new springs) and was told that they would work well with the cam. Just want to get some opinions from you guys before I start with the install once my oil pump and pushrods get here.

my vote is for some PP Golds. i dont remember off hand the seat and open pressure of the REV's. FWIW i ran REV's for 2k miles with my old tr230 with nary a problem.

 

I recommend Patriot Golds They are around $300 and you get Dual springs, ti retainers, keepers, seal, etc. They are comparable in lift with the comp 921

 

Patriot Golds get another vote from me. I'll be runnin them with my next cam.

if you dont wanna hassle with buying new ones and selling the ones you have then just use the ones you have since your not gonna be too harsh on the motor...

You dont need dual springs for that cam. 918 or manleys will work fine.

 

I would get double springs if it was my car. I like my crane doubles, thunder racing recommended them over the 918 for the trex. Patriot golds are good springs as well.

 

for that lift yes, but at his level he wont need duals. I have singles on my 592 lift and take it to 7k regularly with no float.

Um... I drive my car every day to work and back, autoX, drag race, etc. Whose gambling? Me and the 100,000 other guys with singles on cams under 600 lift? In fact ive asked many times on this forum who has ever broken a manley spring...and no one will say they have.. The 918s had some issues but i dont reccomend them

And there is a reason our sponsors sell certain springs with certain cams. His cam from a sponsor would most likely come with the "new" 918 that i havent heard of any issues with. Not saying its wrong to go dual, just adding that its not exactly beneficial IMO

 

i dont know about you guys, but i wouldnt use used springs, because you dont know what condition they are in, or what they've been through, or if they were heat cycled etc.

yea the guy before him broke one of the springs their is one new one in the box
