Broken valve spring! Question?
I had a post a week or so ago about random misfire code and a miss I couldn't figure out. After changing plugs/plug wires swapping coil packs, I finally found a broken valve spring.
My question is the spring blew almost a full coil right out of the middle of the spring. Most of the time I see the springs snap on the top or bottom coils. Is there a reason for this?

How many miles on the springs? What kind of miles were they, ie how many passes, were they city or highway miles...or did you romp on it everywhere. If you tormented your valvesprings, then having a more violent failure is a little more understandable.
The springs are dual springs and they had about 6000 miles on them. The car had a few dozen runs at the track and the rest of the time is fairly easy street miles. The cam is the .561 lift TR224.
No it wasn't one of the new springs. I bought one of the first set of Patriot heads two years ago. Mine came with the bad valves that Patriot replaced with new ones. I haven't contacted Patriot yet to see if they will work something out with me. I really don't beat my car up so I was really surprised when I found the spring broke.
The reason I posted this question is because I wondered with the spring breaking this way if this was common.
