Anybody ever put a cam in with stock manifolds?
I am curious if anybody has ever put a cam in a bolt-on LS1(F-body, Vette, GTO, etc) with stock exhaust manifolds and got good results, or bad results for that matter?
What cam did you run, dyno results, etc.
Thanks...

I helped install a cam in Orangepeels car and he had stock exhaust. It really choked of the cam. You could here the motor fighting to the the exhaust out. it was a comp 224/224 on a 114lsa

I ran my 230/232, 573/575, 111 lsa. with stock manifolds for 8 months. I did port and polish them though. I dyno'd at 370 rwhp, and I have a A4 with a high stall torque conveter! My best 1/8 mile run was 7.58 with the stock manifolds and full weight, I have not been back to the track or dyno with my new Pacesetter headers.

I was thinking about buying a set of stock GTO manifolds from one of the guys that installed longtubes already, and seeing if I could clean them up a bit. I just don't know if I could really improve much by porting them, I have heard the GTO manifolds are better than the F-bodies, but I have no proof of this.

I did my cam with stock manifolds. It's a small cam so I figured it would be okay. However, I did port and polish the stockers. I also added an RT/y and cats. I was looking for a good increase in low & mid-range power (which I got). I might have done LTs but I'm looking to stay close to stock sounding.

i have 00 ported manifolds on my 99 ls1 with the hotcam. i have always heard that it is better to have a more restricitve exhaust with cams that have quite a bit more of exhaust than intake 219/228

My car ran through the timing gate at the Bonneville Salt flats at 161 mph with just a TR224 114, stock exhaust manifolds and cats into an SLP Loud Mouth catback. (two mile course, not quarter mile) This was on rough salt, and I still had some throttle left. The cats were burned up after three runs, though.

I've said this 10000 times....
Putting a cam on an otherwise stock setup is like trying to build a house from the roof down.
Install headers, a converter, or something of the sort before installing a cam. You'll get more out of a converter on a stock car than you will a cam. Wait until the motor is breathing CORRECTLY before doing internal work...
My 2 pennies.......
