Pace performance (a non-sponsor) also sells the ASA cam. It is more dough, however, than the SDPC one ($399 Vs. $350).

SDPC must do a great business since every time I order parts from them they are out of stock...

Ok,I just read this whole thread. The Cam does sound real good, but where are the dyno and track times I personally would not want a Cam that lopes like that if it can't back it up.So let's see some performance gains

But for the most part, even some of them have high performance parts also. Normally our policy is not to have racing or "quasay" racing parts on our cars, but it is hard to enforce. Let's say that officer(#1) doesn't like officer(#2) and he sends an anonymous note to IA about officer #2 having racing parts, that's when action would normally be taken. It has happened already and could happen again. Not all cops get along.

Dan - Really! Wow I thought, at least in NYC, that cops were operating under an unoffical code that says you must not rat-out your fellow officers...

...If I was driving the ASA cam car and you stopped me for a minor traffic violation, would you also cite me for having a race-modified car...

...what happens, if yes? ...is my inspection sticker nullified? Do you tow the car?

This ASA cam clip shoulds very mean - I assume a cop would know immediately that this car belongs on the track and not on the public roads???

Thanks...

The main reason I personaly want this cam is I should make about 380 Hp with out having to change springs on a regular baisis. My main goal is not drag racing etheir. It should make killer power under the curve and with a set of 4.10 gears it will be an awsome Street car in a M6; and great on a roadrace track . Remember GM built this cam for roadracing on stock heads. So if you want the most HP go with one of the huge cams with a big lift. I just sold my TR230 because for me the extra 15 to 20 hp is not worth me stressing on my springs going south. So basicaly I think if the rest of the car is set up right it will back it up. But on the drag strip there are much better cams.
As far as actual dyno #'s I will be posting what I put hopefully next month with QTP headers and mods below. If I have anywhere between 370 and 390 I will be pleased.

yup, this cam wasn't developed for dyno numbers, but yet torque numbers. I have seen a thread on here talking about some one who ran an 11.1 with the asa and cnc ported ls6 heads. This cam is a beast in the midrange.

That was 2002nhraformula. He ran 11.17@123 in a 3560lb car with that cam and GMPP LS6 cnc ported heads. If the car was lighter it would have run high 10's
I have a brand new set of these heads for sale if anybody is interested !They work real well with the ASA cam.

Sounds very, very choppy. I liked the clip, but way too much lope for me.

Actually sounded like the GM Hotcam, but with a bit more rumpity-rump.

Oh I almost forget to add; I am looking at peak power vs realistic power. If you look at TR's own dyno graphs there 224 makes about 5 more HP over the 230 untill 5,500. The 230 then starts making more at 6000 rpm. So on the street the 224 will be a little bit faster. So while on the track the big horse power cams will show a real difference on the street its another matter. What I am hoping to see with the ASA cam is great power that just hangs from 3500 rpm to 6500 rpm. One thing is for sure, in about a month I will know if I am right or wrong.

Big horsepower cams are perfect for high-revving cars at the 1/4 dragstrip, but mid-range powered cams rule on the streets(and are a lot more fun to drive IMO). I know that the "regular" GM Hotcam makes good mid-range power on stock heads, so let us know how this cam works in comparison.

Hey 2002NHRAFormula:
I am considering this cam but it is REALLY mean sounding...

I assume you have this cam but with CATS and a good muffler...

Is your car a street car? Can you post a sound clip? If this sounds much more mild with cats and mufflers I would be more inclined to buy it.

I love it. The more people with real world experience who chime in the more I want this cam.
If you run cats and a muffler you will be fine. Remember that clip is a no cat no muffler set up. Hell a stock cam would be loud as hell on that set up. Just without all that nice lope.

GEORGE,why did u need duel springs with your ASA cam?

Do u think using the N20 had an effect on the springs life?
Where do u have your shift points set with the cam?

A local had this cam. I've heard the ASA has a strong mid range but is not a top end cam. It can be tuned to be very streetable.

I think the cam woud work very well on stock heads, but ported heads could really use more lift. I'd like to see a cam with the same duration specs but .56x to .58X lift.

https://ls1tech.com/ubb/ultimatebb.p...c;f=1;t=011032 has some more info.

the GM/LPE cnc heads were designed around the ASA cam, so they would work well together.

this cam seems to be VERY streetable and i think that yall should just get the SDPC springs and titanium retainers for 175 $ that is what im getting and it looks like a great deal
