There has been a post discussing this for about a week now:

Yes, you can run it. It is a great oil and I am running it in six cars right now. If you find it, stock up. For the first change, I would recommend 5K miles and then send a sample to Blackstone for #46 Terry Dyson analysis. Terry will provide specific advice for your car.

Start out your first run with this oil at 5 or 6k, then send it off for analysis to see how much longer you can go. I ran my first run at 5k, and am about to change it again this weekend, with 6k on it. This summer I will begin to follow my oil life monitor, so I'm expecting it to go as much as 8k.

That German Castrol 0w30 is hard to find around here. I found 8 qts at AutoZone the other day and bought them all. I changed the oil after and also used the K&N 2006 long filter. I have been using Mobil 1 5w30 with the K&N 2006 filter. Does anyone know of an on-line place that has this oil? The shipping would me.

Do you have the web site for Blackstone or more info?
Thanks,

Stay away from the Mobil 1 filters, they don't flow very well.

I recommend the K&N oil filters. You could leave them on for your entire interval, no need to change it partway through. It's good for 10k easily.

is there an order/item # for the castrol 0W30? that way if autozone dosent have it stocked i can have them look up the # and hopefuly have them order some.

can i run the 0W30 year round? temp ranges from as low as 20* in the winter & as high as 100+* in the summer.

Thanks,
stuart

The folks at AZ generally haven't a clue about what they have on the shelf. There are two kinds of Castrol Syntec 0W30. Both have the same SKU number, so the AZ employees don't know which is there. When they reorder they don't know which they are getting, and generally don't care.
You will have to look at the back of the container. If it says Made in USA, leave it there. If it says Made in Germany, take it home. Castrol insists both types are the same, but if you read the back of the containers the German made oil meets different specifications than the USA made stuff.
The only place it is available in the USA is Auto Zone. No on-line source (unless someone wants to go into business for themselves).

Terry, good to see you made it on here!

Stuart, you can definitely run GC 0w30 in any temperature, from the coldest Alaskan weather to the heat of summer in Arizona. It can handle either temperature extreme no problem.

I've also seen this oil at Advanced Auto parts. It is pretty hard to find though, most of them are the made in the US ones. The local autozones around here though have atleast 6 quarts everytime I go.

Good alternatives to the K&N oil filter would be the Wix, NAPA Gold, Carquest Premium, Purolator Premium Plus, Amsoil, STP or Supertech oil filter.
