Question Ported Oil Pump, who has the best?

Choosing a ported oil pump for my LS1.

Which sponsors have the best pumps for a fair price?

By way of comparison, SLP claims their new pumps are ported on both the inlet and outlet sides. I assume this is important? Looks like their pump comes with a pick-up tube o-ring also. Price is a little high though. . . .

Thanks!

I am using the TR Ported LS6 Oil Pump and the oil pressure is higher than with the stock oil pump. I got it on sale for $134. SDPC has them as well and they do good work.

I would go with the TR or the TSP. Both companys do a great job on the oil pumps. I have a TR and i see 65psi at idle but that could be do to the tight tolerances i have on all of my bearings (.002-.0025). I am still in the break in faze of the motor but i have seen more than 80psi. I pegged the oil gage out.

Who does SDPC's oil pumps? How do you know ahead of time that the vendor ported both inlets & outlets?

I went with a Mellings oil pump. No results yet until I get the motor finished. The price was right and the quality as well.

I did a quick Google search, and did not turn up any useful results on a Mellings oil pump. Where is there info on one?

I compared a TSP to my FMS, and the FMS actually looked like it had been ported, the TSP had very little done to it. Plus the FMS is cheaper!

Are you absolutely sure it was a TSP pump, as I spend 15-20 minutes on porting alone on each pump so you can definatly tell its been ported. I'm sure mine are on the same porting level as other brands also, I do between 10-15 a week minimum. There was a time when we couldn't get any GM pumps (backorder) to port so the customers that needed pumps that week and couldn't wait were sent Katech's instead but I'm sure they were aware of that.

FWIW I think our pump and the FMS pump are the only two that are still ported in-house.

I agree with his statement. My pump is brand new in the box and kinda looks untouched. If you want I can provide pics of it. I did see a grind mark on a bolt? Do you do that to tell which ones have been ported? My buddie has a FMS and it looked worked a little more And this was at the time when the BMR springs were on backorder and I changed my order to the pump and the double roller chain.

Almost 100% on it man. Not tryin to bash your product or anything. I looked at it with a couple others who were pointing out to me what was done, etc. The same that pointed the differences out with my fms piece.

If I would have went with a TSP cam, etc I would have bought the TSP pump.

If my digi cam wouldn't have died on me yesterday I would have taken pics of everything .

I do my own pump porting in house. Those that run my pumps know how they work

We use them in all of our Dominator series engines. They typically will run 45-50psi hot at idle on a fresh engine.

Brandon, yea pics would have been great! I'm thinking the TSP pump you had seen was prob one we had sold when out of our own pumps (Katech-about 5-6 were shipped). If the inlet was rough cut it is a Katech, if its polished smooth its one I did. Just wanna make sure everyone is satisfied with their purchases, the TSP oil pumps have recieved plenty of good feedback before and I intend to keep it that way.

If anyone recieved a Katech from us and don't want it, they could sent it back and have it reworked into a TSP pump if desired.
