Default Anyone running PP 5.3 heads/FM11?

The heads are uncut, I will check P/V when I install but was looking for someone that has run the same setup to tell me either "I didn't have a problem, clearance was xxxx", or "mine was real close, look out". I plan to run MLS gaskets since I don't want to pay for cometics....and if it's going to be close I probably would run the .052-.055 gaskets anyway. I'm just wondering if the .595 lift on the exhaust side will be too close. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

What size valves???

And what is the purpose of H/C? if it is to make more power then why cut corners and not maximizing your quench which is one of the most important events in your motor (better flame travel and reduced detonation) just to save a few $$?
The only way I would run MLS is if I do not want to flycut and that extra bit of clearance is needed.

2.02/1.57.....and like you said "The only way I would run MLS is if I do not want to flycut and that extra bit of clearance is needed." I don't know how much out of the hole the pistons are, so I don't know how much difference there really would be between the MLS gaskets and cometics in regard to clearance/quench. I agree that proper quench is important...but there is a tradeoff for a less than perfect scenario. Thanks for your input!

Default thanks

Tally,

Did you check P/V or just install dot-to-dot and go with it? If so, what clearance did you get?

2.02/1.57, Then it will fit, I would use the .045 Cometic (unmilled heads). Is it worth the expense, yes, I think $150 is worth the ~10rwhp gained from better quench and tiny increase in CR.
BTW stock blocks is ~.007 out of hole on average but measuring it with your heads off is not hard.

FYI, I'm putting the same combo 112 lsa (not PP), but with 2cc VR pistons and milling .018 for ~11.4x SCR, .041 Cometic, .005 out of hole for a .036 Quench.

Funny I just got off the phone with Futral and we discussed a customer with Patriot II heads that wouldn't clear an F11 cam while some Patriot heads will clear the F14...?????

It seams that Patirot is EXTREMELY inconsistant. Read all of the threads here about PP issues. I'm setting up an LS1 with 5.3 heads 2.02"/1.575 F14 -112 and according to Futral it should work with up to .010" removed from the heads as long as the valve job is seated and not hung out on the edge. I'm looking for 11:1 CR and a nice tight quench. (or was that wench? )

Not Patriot heads, but this might give you some useful info.

I'm running a FM11 on 112 LSA with 5.3 TEA heads, milled .016, 2.055" Intake and 1.55" Exhaust, with the .045" cometics.

Everything is A-OK

I've also heard that some AS heads wouldn't allow a cam that size, due to the valve job. I hadn't heard that about PP heads, but I understand the mechanics of the valve depth in the seat/head vs. the size cam that could be used....open to any and all comments...thanks!

Keep in mind that PTV varies greatly on valve size. Our stage II head could have a 2.02" or 2.055" valve which would effect the PTV. With just compression ratio in mind, many customers request their heads be milled. Without taking into account their PTV, we have seen many customers that had theirs heads milled too much.

In this case, my heads are 2.02/1.57 unmilled....but what we are talking about is potential P/V problems due either to 1) too much material milled from the head (2) valves set up in the head "shallow" (3) combination of both. This assumes that the stock deck height is consistent for head cores. The reason I didn't mill my heads was that I am concerned that if I did it would be too close.

Yes, I wanted to go 2.055", but stayed with 2.02" for the F14 and 5.3 heads.
I'd rather have 11:1 and .598" lift than an extra .035" diameter of intake valve. Now if I was going FI that would be a whole different story.
