Default AFRs *arent* the only game in town, it seems...

OK... this is more than just Tony M bait

I ordered a set of Stage 3 LQ9 heads from TEA. My app is an all-bore 387 (4.125" bore, stock 3.622" stroke for now)
There are some different things about these heads, and these flow numbers.
First off, the price:
It was less than a set of AFR 205s, including the core, PRC spring kit, assembly, etc. It was a peice-by-peice custom price, so I wont give the exact $ number. Call Brian or Brent with your app.
The set-up:
Bare LQ9 cores set up with 2.10" intake valve and a stock size 1.57" exhaust valve. Chamber size is 69cc, with .018 or so of a deck to get that.
The ports are done by Paris from SAM... they are a update of the "Judson Massengil" port. I'll call them the Paris port. 234cc or so on the intake.

The flow: I dont know the bench, it was whatever TEA uses. 1 5/8" pipe on the exhaust. Clay radius on the intake. 4.125" bore.

The flow numbers:

----------Intake----Exhaust
.100------72--------52
.200------151-------126
.300------224-------187
.400------274-------241
.500------318-------260
.550------335-------265
.600------346-------267

My cam is an MTI Z1 (236/236 .609 .609)... so I don't for now care about higher than .600.

But I'm *very* happy. Find me another $2200 head that is likely to perform this well!!!

I'll get them independently flowed and CC'd when I flow and CC the heads that are coming off the car... but I have no reason not to trust the above numbers outside knowing that a pipe was used on the exhaust.

Those are some staggering numbers. Through the range, but down low is sick. Just for kicks let us know the independent numbers to verify. 224 @ .300 is awesome.

Paris= TEA guy now formerly from SAM
1.55" exhaust valve
Asked my porter to make sure and they were flowed with a 1 7/8 pipe because of the bore.

Can't wait to see the power this combination makes. As far as I know it is going to be a head only swap?
Thanks for your business!

I have done 4 sets of heads now on a local bench.
I use the same bench every time.
2 of the sets have been from sponsor's or formor sponsor's, and 2 sets have been local guys.
The sponsor's heads have out done the local heads, and the flow numbers have been closer as well.
I see what TEA's heads do on different cars and I would bet they flow close to what Brent says they do.

And after having awsome heads, still has time to come on here and post.
This is what seperates TEA and AFR from everyone else.
Both do awsome quality work and the owners come on to help pimp their company.

woops! You guys are probably laughing knowing how fast I put these numbers up here... But there sure isn't anyone around the office to share my excitement with. What am I going to do... call the wife? "Sweetie! 224 at 300! 346 at 600! Can you believe it??!?!"

I have a few improvements to go on the car... a couple exhaust things, a TPiS Oval LS6 intake & TB, lots of HPTuners work, and these heads (and some more HPTuners work).
I will do the intake/exhaust first though, and swap and dyno the heads seperately. Ive got the time and the curiosity.

And definitely some independant flow numbers so that I can show off as convincingly as possible

Sure... But it's needed drastically exactly where it is. Last time you tried to strap it to your vette, it just made some rude smells and drained your battery.

Mike,

(By the way, my "time out" whistle just blew....lol)

You misunderstood what I wrote....I was NOT being sarcastic. I was a bit baffled by your response and one of the guys read it and pointed out to me that you might have taken what I said sarcastically. I was actually having FUN with this one...as well as a few other people.

Guys...I dont expect all of you to buy AFR's, and although I am proud to be affiliated with the product and this company, there are certainly other very competent shops to purchase from. There are far to many products out there for ANYONE to be the "only game in town". I'm here to provide information for the people that are considering using our product, not to mention am geniunely interested in this hobby, especially related to the LS Gen III stuff for obvious reasons.

Back to our regular programing....

I thought he was kidding too... so no problems. Tony takes a ribbing as well as anyone.
Although there was a slightly nervous tone to his post...

That was actually me on Mike's name. Whoopsies.

Your comment about the flow numbers 'panning out' was uncalled for. That's why your attitude sucks.

An interesting comparo with TEA Stage 3 AFRs, on the same flow bench.

----------Intake----Exhaust------AFR Intake--AFR Exhaust
.100------72--------52-----------68.1--------56
.200------151-------126----------141.2------124
.300------224-------187----------207.5------180
.400------274-------241----------261.6------235
.500------318-------260----------304.6------268
.550------335-------265----------323.4------275
.600------346-------267----------341.2------279

The AFRs were flowed with a 4.00" bore, though. I think it's impressive how similar the numbers are.
Brian Tooley, Brent, and others have said that the AFRs will hold a gasket down significantly better than GM castings. But Im purely NA... and so I'm very pleased at the price/performance here so far.

The AFR #s are from:
