If I have to rebuild...
I found oil on my #7 spark plug a few weeks back. I haven't confirmed whether it's a leak from the valve train or blowby from the rings. For argument's sake, let's say it's the rings and I need a rebuild. My overall plan for the car is a streetable "sleeper". No huge cam lope, no loud exhaust, etc.
What would be the best, and most cost-effective route to go?
Sorry if this seems like a dumb post, but I'm mechanically declined when it comes to engine internals.

LOL streetable sleeper with no loud exhaust and no cam lope....and you reccommend a 422? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
I'd say rebuild the motor and use the ol'e TR224 cam and a Magnaflow catback for that quiet-at-idle-loud-at-WOT sound.

What is you budget? if true sleeper then a GMMG LS6 longblock for under $6Ks
Or contact LME (Bryan), you could get a built forged. cammed, headed 347 for around the same.

I haven't really set a budget yet, just trying to get some ballpark ideas of what to do and how to get it done. If my block is in good shape, I'd like to keep it and maybe replace the rotating assembly. I guess the main thing I'm trying to decide is whether to stay with a stock configuration and get it refreshed (new bearings, rings, etc.), or go a little bigger. My main concerns are streetability and the sleeper factor. For now, this is a daily driver, so I not only want to keep its manners intact, but I have to plan this very carefully.
Like I said before, I'm not sure a rebuild is even going to be necessary until I've had a professional look at it. Just trying to keep my options open.

Then first have a look and go from there. just make sure if you decide to rebuilt your block, that you send it to an experienced LS1 builder, to name a few (APE, HPE, LME, MTI or similar)
To rebuild a block properly, ie blue printed is not that much cheaper than getting another block with yours in exchange. Should be under $3K for a shortblock on exchange.

You can get a 383 or LS2 402 and under cam it, like has been mentioned, and still make great power. Just live with shitty heads for a bit or do those at the same time(better choice).
If your block is good, for a true budget build, just have someone put forged internals in it and call it a day. Just have to keep the cam choices smaller, IE a 224 or less. NOS is great for sleeper cars
