Lightweight valves, Z06 valves, reliability?
less reliable with high spring rates & big cams than
the "stock" regular LS1 valves.
This was just in some automotive mag, so I'm not
that sure about it. Wondering whether people have
been seeing valvestem failures on the factory Z06
valves (I have a full set of these, want to put them
in my truck heads with Crane duals), or whether this
is more about aftermarket, super light weight ones,
or just a bunch of hot air (text).
I wouldn't think Z06 factory valves would be let out
into the wild if they were that close to the edge. My
plan is only a little 220/220 566/566 baby cam anyway.
But I'd like to know where any such reliability problem
might start to show up, if there is one.
No issues whatsoever. I'm a big fan of lighter moving valve train.
I'm about to run Stock LS1 heads (241 casting) with F10 cam and Patriot Duals sprigs. Not the lightest setup, I know.
However, once I can afford Zo6 heads (and have them ported), I'll keep the lighter Z06 valves, throw in some light Comp 918 springs with Titanium retainers, and Yella-Terra Rockers, and call it a "happy-7K reving-day"

Stockers with C-clips and new trunions are better. (Harland Sharp kit)

I have thrashed the hell out of my lightly modded Z06 for 36000 miles and have no issues.(6900rpm fuel shutoff)
I intend to step up to AFR 225s and I will request Comp Cams 918 or 921s depending on cam selection, which are beehive springs. A little known fact is that the stockers on the LS6 are worth 17 HP over dual springs.
As an old engine builder, I think the valvetrain in total is a great setup in the LS6.
