Yet another Cam Thread F13 or G5x4
Getting really close to buying a cam. I am looking really hard into the F13 on a 112+0, but the g5x4 has me very interested. There are no listed number, can somebody pm me with the numbers. Also where does this cam peak and which would you choose.
Car is 02 Firehawk m6 will have all bolt ons & 4.10's. weekend car, don't mind all the stuff that comes with larger cams, will spin the motor 6800.
Thanks for the help

There is a large difference in size between an FM13 and G5X4. LARGE.
Between the two I'd get the G5X4. Do you run at the track? If so, are you ready to buy a new rear end and strong clutch? You probalby won't get anybody to tell you the specs on the cam, lou is different like that and doesn't make them public. It's BIG though. Probably not T-rex big, but big nonetheless.

The X4 isn't that much bigger than the F13. Maybe 6 degrees of duration @ .050". Both cams are similar in lobe harshness, but the F13 goes reverse split around .200" whereas the X4 is just a traditional foward split throughout the lift range. Springs will wear a bit quiker with the bigger XE-R lobe of the X4, but the F13 wouldn't be too far behind it in spring life. I think it just depends if you want big or bigger.

I told you it's big. Don't know why they say it's too big for 346 though.

It's not that big. Like I said, without being to specific, it's in the 236'ish range on the intake and 244'ish on the exaust. Deffinatlly not to big by todays cam standards. It is however very tight on piston to valve clearence. You better make sure you have a stout spring like the PRC platinum to keep it under control. It really depends on what you want. The X3 would also be a good choice and allow a little more P/V.

I dunno... maybe we have different opinions on what similar cams are. To me, X4, T-Rex, and MS03 are more alike. F13, Torquer v.2, and maybe X2 or X3 are more alike.

F13 is far from G5X4 in almost every way.

To me, six degrees of duration isn't that much. In the opinion you posted 8-10 degrees being a big diffrence. That is far more substantial than 6. There is no magical number to being to big. It's all just personal opinions. IMO, anything under 240 isn't that drastic and could be tuned to be a good driver in a M6. The F13 is far diffrent than the X4, but not just because of the .050 numbers. There is far more to the equation than what you see at .050", but even at .050 the X4 has double the amount of overlap of the F13. As far as my statements, I was saying that at .050", to me, the X4 isn't that much diffrent, but the cams are actually two completly diffrent animals.

FM13
.050 - 230/232
.200 - 151/150
X4 (guestimates)
.050 - 236/244
.200 - 157/165

Bigger isnt necessarly better in all cases...It is all in the setup that each part compliments one another...I know some small 221 221 cars putting 400 to the wheels cam only, a G5X3 cam only car putting down 385, yet another 224 224 C2 cam and ported heads running 10.7's all motor in a full weight 3800lbs car...Just get what you feel you will be happy with and what works with your setup...Just my .02
