Good mild cam for a DD
Im looking for a really inexpensive cam (read-mild) thatll get me somewhere around 350rwhp with stock headers. Im just looking for a lid/catback/cam sort of setup. Can i do a cam swap for under $350 thatll get me a good 40 or 50 rwhp? I dont want my rear end busting and i dont want to sacrifice daily driving or mpg. What do you all recommend? Car is 99 M6 with just a lid and LM.

Something with duration in the low-mid 220's and around .56X"-.57X" lift. If you want smooth idle, shoot for an LSA around 114-115. A 112 or so will give you a little more chop and the power will peak a little sooner in the power band. For instance, my cam is a 222/.566/112 and it's a baby cam by today's standards but it is a great, proven DD cam that's good for 10's in the right car. For what I do, I like it. There are sooooo many choices or I'd list some. Just take a look around. Personally, I don't think you can get a swap done for under $350. though. Good luck with your project.

the cheapest cam swap packages I've seen are from SDPC one of our sponsors, they can teak your specs, or you can just go with the grinds they have. They have a 220/224 551/551 114 LSA crane cam that sells for 308 plus you'll need the inexpensive LS6 springs that will last practically forever for around 50 bucks and of course another 45 bucks for the gasket set. So for around 400 bucks you won't find to many others that can beat that deal-at least I aven't found anyone else that can. I would pay close attention to cam lift numbers as well as its ramp rate which detirmines how soon the springs need to be replaced. Some cams need a replacement every 20-30 thousand miles. the crane cams should last quite a while, they told me using their springs 100,000 miles no problem, the LS6 springs with the above mentioned cam could last as long, but I'd check just to make sure, or replace them since they are so cheap in price. that cam should make a great DD as well. You could look into the LS6 cam some people are very happy with them as well

It's hard to get more than 30-35 rwhp gain with a cam when running stock exhaust manifolds. They're the choke point in the system. If you must run without headers, consider a cam that has less than 0 degrees of overlap at .050" lift.

The Thunder Racing 224/224 563/563 114 or 112 LSA is an awesome mild cam, and it makes power through all the RPM range. Nothing can really compare with this cam, IMO, for a mild cam upgrade, and it has a nice sound to it as well.

Price doesnt really matter with big or small cams.
If you need to pass smog, i think a 224 on a 114lsa is about as big as you can go.
