Default GT2-3 vs LS6 cam, is GT2-3 really better?

Just curious, here are the specs I have for both

LS6 204/218 .551/.547 117.5
GT2-3 207/220 .571/.578 118.5

Does the GT2-3 really make much more power than the LS6 cam? I have seen most people say 15-20hp for the LS6, and 25-30 for the GT2-3, for an average 10 more hp. Seems like a lot of hp from a little more duration and lift, especially considering the slightly smaller lsa of the LS6 cam. Any thoughts or comments?

The LPE cam is certainly better, but if you're going to spend the money on an aftermarket cam, you should consider one that's going to give you a bigger gain vs. the LS6 cam. The Thunder Racing CheaTR cam is more of a pumped up version of the LS6 cam:
215/230 .600/.578 117LSA
It will give you 30-35 rwhp gain with stock exhaust manifolds and cats...35-40 rwhp gain if you have headers. Idle is clean and power gains are good down low and even better up high.

I though about that, but was concerned about emissions with the duration.

Don't be concerned. The CheaTR cam was designed specifically to be an emissions compliant cam. The wide LSA helps keep the overlap low, which improves idle, fuel economy and emissions compared to other cams of similar duration.

Interesting... And 918's are fine from what you have said. How do you shim the springs to .05" of coil bind like you have stated. I am gonna do this job myself, and this is the only part I am unsure of.

I like the GT2-3. Its a great daily driver cam that won't get noticed by anyone I gained over 60rwhp compared to stock with long tubes, CAI, cam, pulley, and tune.

I dont have the GT2-3 but I do have the GT1-1, and am very happy with my performance gains. I dont think you would be dissappointed if you decide on running the GT2-3. Just my opinion.

If your gona go through the trouble of changing cams, get the biggest "emission" cam you can get. There are people that pass in cali with a TR224 on a 114 fwiw.

I am debating right now on what to go with. thing is that there is no where for me to take my car for a tune around here where I live. I am ready to do the cam upgrade but want something that is going to give me that lopey sound and maximum power without having to touch the pcm. Is this possible. The plan was to go to TSP but a death in the family combined with other money issues are preventing me at this time. I am really interested in the cheatr cam.
