Default AFR 205 heads & lifters install Questions ?

I'm looking at getting a set of these soon and have some qustions.

1. Will my Comp 921 springs fit right on them without the need of any other parts ?

2. What gaskets should I use ?

3. Are GM head bolts stretch style and need to be replaced ?

4. I'm changing lifters as well becuase I have a bad one (I think), should I go back stock or Comp R lifters ?

Thanks for any help.

1. Not sure
2. Cometic (sp?) .045 or .040
3. Replace with ARP head bolts, do not reuse stock
4. Stock, Comp R or Morel

All these are my opinions. Many will have others.

hey guys, how exactly do u adjust the rockers on a ls1?im looking into swapping cams soon.i have expierence w/ swapping cam's on my 89 camaro and buddys 90 as well.is it as easy as a regular sbc? i usually adjust the rockers by tighten them a bit, cranking the engine over and let it idle and adjust them one by one.now i figure that u cant do this on a ls1 due to the coils mounted on the vavle cover.how exactly can i adjusted them?

Just do Comp 850 lifters. They are OEM replacements and don't need you to screw with anything. Ususally, they are cheaper than stock and far better.

If you have the money though, the Morels would be a good choice, because they do not need adjustable rockers.

Comp R, as I've heard from both Comp and TR, need adjustable rockers for proper operation.

I can answer some of that, yes you want to change the lifters with a cam that big, I have a bad lifter (s) with my setup and I only have 23k on my car.
As for the chain I think the LS2 chain is the way to go, cheap and very strong for the money.
I would suggest some dual springs such as the 921's or whatever brand you like.

Regards.. JD

I called Comp today and talked with the rep in length about the difference in the lifters, short story is the OEM Comp lifters will be the way I'm going.

Unless your going turbo, big cubes or supercharging he said it was bigtime overkill to use the 'R' lifters.
I like the fact that it would be overkill but I don't like the fact that I would need different rockers to make them work as they were designed and using them any other way is not getting the benifits the lifters offer.

I was told by a shop that I could use the 'R' without adjustable rockers and just make sure the length was right but Comp said its not only a bad idea but its a terrible idea.

They also said the OEM style lifters are rated higher than factory and would do just about anything I wanted them to do short of running 7500 RPM all day.
