here's the scenerio:
car club was in a parade, naturally revving engines/making noise. I probably went to 6500 and 7000 regularly [imagine doing that about 90 times over the course of a mile] Pulled into a parking lot afterwords to hear i'm the only car with a really high pitch tapping / pinging noise coming from the engine....shut off the car, lifted the hood to cool it off for a good 45 minutes. Turned it on....noise is still there. Oh, someone said that since i'm running fully synthetic oil that could be the problem?
What'd i do? What do i do? what's it gonna cost?

I got an idea that might help. Disconnect the radior fan and hoses and restart the car back up. Then just sit there and let it idle for about an hour. That might help to reset the bearings.

That might work This WILL work... Take off your valve covers and see whats doing in there. It might be a bent pushrod, spring, ect. It will only take you about an hour to inspect and put back together. Take a pic and send it if your not sure whats wrong. Dude...free reving is bad btw no reason to do that

Geez, talk about bustin' a guys *****. It's hard to diagnose a sound without hearing it in person. Try searching for ticking or tapping noises and you'll find some good advice on where to start.

The scenario you are describing is the WORST possible senario for an engine. Almost all cars over heat when they are not moving. In this case, you have a car that is burning alot of fuel (heat) through revving and not getting any air flow through the radiator. On top of that, it is spinning up to 116 rotations per second. I said 116 per second. Can you count that fast ?
You might be really lucky to find a bent valve, push rod, or malfunctioning spring, but that is a good start.
I take that back I have actually seen a bad spring in that scenario. The best advice is, dont just drive it around for a while without checking out if it is just that simple. Because something that simple will turn ugly if you just ignore it, and will be really easy to fix at this point compared to the WCS.

dude, the rev limiter is set to 6k because the pushrods can't support any more than that. I'd check them first, a new set of chrome moly's aren't that expensive and pretty easy to do. If that doesn't do it lifters and springs next. still not too expensive, but a little more time consuming. good luck, and remember limits to engine capacity are set for a reason. It's ok to change things but do some homework first, there a several great LS1 books out there with lots of info so you won't have to worry about doing this again!

pull valve covers off, inspect for weak/calapsed springs/lifters, bent push rod/rods, valves/rocker arms. if all this checks good, drain oil and inspect for metal shaving/flakes. worst could be spun bearing. hope this helps.
