Default ls1 carbureted

hello i was wondering if anyone had any good info on what size cam and carb to run in a stock 99 ls1 engine with the edlebrock carb intake system. I am looking to make the most horsepower for the buck. the car will have long tubes and duel exhaust but it will have the stock heads. the trans is going to be a turbo 350 with a 4000 stall and shift kit in a 2800 lb 1990 mustang with a 4:11 gear.
any help would be great
thanks
justin

Hummm, I'd call up edelbrock. I'd wanna say any 650-750 cfm carb that has vaccuum secondaries would be great for the street.

Why would you want to run a carb with that intake manifold? I'm using the GMPP War carbed style intake manifold with bungs welded in place for the fuel injectors. I've got a Compucar Nitrous plate and a Wilson throttle body sitting on top of the plate, this way you get the advantage of the carb style manifold and the efficiency of fuel injection, best of both worlds.

But you still have all that electronics crap. I would love to do the same thing and use MSD ignition module to eliminate the PCM completely.

Then again my setup is full race only so low RPM fuel metering is no concern to me.

BTW Elite how tall from the valley cover to the 4150 flage is the GMPP intake? Any idea how much taller it is than a traditional LS6 or FAST composite intake?

I don't know right off the top of my head but I did have to cut the metal cowling right under the windshield to get the set up to fit.

Yes that's with the nitrous plate and the throttle body attached.

The August 2005 issue of CHEVY HIGH PERFORMANCE magazine has two engine builds using the intake/carb setup. The Edelbrock dual plane intake with Demon 750 carb "WILL" make more horsepower than current OEM composit intakes according to article.

what about the gm hot cam? or should i maybe go bigger since it is a carb setup? as far as leaving the fuel injection i am trying to fit it in a mustang so i dont want to have a wiring nightmare just looking for a simple install in the car so the carb is definitly the way to go for me. then the ease of installing a plate nitrous kit under that and yehaw!!

good question. you should be good with the hot cam, but anything too large, fuel injection will be more forgiving of it

As I said I have the GMPP intake and have found that I have lost power in the lower RPM ranges, it really starts to make good power at about 5000 RPM and above.

CGas55, I'm new to all this LS1 stuff and I too am thinking of doing a carbed LG4. I've found the genIII is a whole new ballgame as far as camshaft matching is concerned. With a 4000 stall you could run some serious cam with a compression hike. However, from all I have read.....A. VP clearance becomes an issue.....B. Depending on what you want to do with all this mabye a smaller cam and less stall will get you there. These motors seem to make unreal horsepower at high (say6500) rpm with really tame cams. Beauty of those sweet cylinder heads!

BTW...I have to ask this......With CGas55 as a user name, do you have one of those in the garage?

Default 55

steve i had a nostalgia drag car 55 chevy but i recently sold it due to me never doing anything with it. it was just sitting around and i figured someone might want to get it out and enjoy it more than me, so i sold it. one day i will buy another that is more streetable. as for now i have a 01 z/28 with a turbo and i am building this ls1 nitrous injected mustang just to beat the hell out of. the turbo car is just waiting for a chance to get to the tuner it is going in on the 31st so hoplefully it does well but if not it is only for a short period till the stroker is built . do you have a 55?

cgas55, Unfortunatly I don't have a '55. But I want one BAAD! With the price of '55s going the way they have in the past 5 years or so it's not likely I'll have one anytime soon. Lest I get real lucky and score a good find......

The goal for me is to build a 10sec. street car. I'm leaning heavy toward a blow-thru carb 6.0. From what I've put together on paper so far this should be about the easiest, streetable 750 horsepower on the block. With the price of 6.0s getting affordable it's just too tempting..............
