I'll tell you this: My MS3 is a 237/242 .603/.609 on a 113 and the X3 is pretty similer. (based purely on numbers @ .05, the MS3 is bigger, people tend to think the LG cams are bigger than they really are) It can be had on a 112 or a 114. Both LSA's will clear stock, unmilled heads but the 112 cuts it close, you definately don't want to get it installed a tooth off.
The X4 is a little bit bigger.
Many of the cams available today have the power to go 11'a NA cam only. Then again we have NA SI guys going 11's cam only. With a decent cam and a good setup 11's shouldn't be a problem.
When I bought my MS3 I had a SSF3500 and it wasn't enough to make full use of the cam. I ended up restalling to 4k. It was $75 plus shipping to and from TCI.
For a moderately sized converter like the 3500 you will proabably want to stay closer to something in the low-mid 230's. FM13, TSP 233/239, G5X2 (232/240 IIRC), TSP torquer, etc.
In terms of idle quality and drivability I would not be scared of a big, nasty cam if you like lope. My car is my daily driver 24/7/365 (unfortunately for it) and I love the MS3. Down the road when it's no longer my only vehicle and I do some more serious modding I might go with an even larger cam.
Edit: My MS3 starts up on first crank every time, whether it's 15* or 105* outside, hot start or cold start. It's all in having a good tune. The idle does fluctate in gear the first few minutes during the winter but it's not a big deal at all. Give it a mile or two and it's nice and smooth. Well, I don't know about smooth. I think a better word is constant.
