What are the most popular brands of flowbenches?
And how do they flow compared to each other?
I'm just curious because I dropped my heads off to be flowbenched last week, and as I was getting ready to leave, the technician mentioned that his flowbench consistantly flows 10% less than a Superflow flowbench? I was in a hurry, and unfortunately didn't ask him what flowbench he uses, but he's pretty well known in the area and I'll trust him until I have reason not to. I'll get the heads back tomorrow and post the flowsheet with flowbench used, but I was mainly wondering what the most popular flowbenches were.

Well I got my heads back and got to talk to the tech again. Apparently the flowbench is a JKM flowbench. He said something about the owner of the company dying and not selling a ton of them. It was flowed on a 4.00" bore. These are the uncorrected numbers I got:
Lift/Intake/Exhaust
.200"/119.9/101.35
.300"/167.51/143.25
.400"/218.80/193.94
.500"/248.10/218.80
.550"/254.90/226.48
.600"/276.36/233.91
.650"/276.36/233.91
Notice the .600" and .650" numbers are the same...I think he forgot I asked to flow to 650 and fudged the.650" numbers But going by the correction he gave me, they should look like this:

.300"/186.1/143.25
.400"/243.1/193.94
.500"/275.7/218.80
.550"/283.2/226.48
.600"/307.1/233.91
.650"/No data/No data
If the correction factor is accurate, I'm more than happy with the heads I have. Even if It's off 1% from what he says they should be, they're still good enough to spare my wallet the cost of upgrading to ET's or AFR's then.

Apparently, Richard at West Coast Cylinder Heads feels that the JKM flowbenches are among the most conservative out there. I'm gonna PM him with these details and see if he agrees with the correction factor.

I found that the location tapped to pickup the test pressure (28" in this case) was placed too far away from the bottom of the test bore on my JKM bench. Relocating the pressure pickup to the bottom of the test bore resulted in almost 5" of test pressure difference. It was as if I was testing heads at 23" of test pressure instead of 28". Not sure what model JKM bench they have, but it sounds like the same issues my bench had. I completely rebuilt my bench and now it tests very close to a Superflow.
Can you ask the shop that tested the heads to evaluate them and offer an opinion? Perhaps they can comment on how they compare to other heads they've tested.

Thank you very much for adding your expertiece here Richard. This information is very useful. I'll try to talk with him some more, but all he said beyond the normal sales transaction was that they were some pretty darned good flowing heads. What he was comparing them to exactly, I don't know yet, but it made me feel pretty good about them.
