Default 01 Z06 ls6 Valve Train Questions

Guys, do these have the hollow/sodium filled intake and exhaust valves like the 02 and up do? Do you know the weight difference between them and the stock ls1 valves? Also, is the stock installed height 1.8" like the rest of the ls1 world or are their valve stems longer? Thanks.

Damnit, that's what I was afraid of. Are they hollow or are they the same weight, actually heavier cause they are longer, then the ls1 valves?

They are heavier than '02 up, thats one of the areas that helped GM get the extra 20hp of the '02 up.

6mm comes out to .236" so I assume the z06 has a taller spring seat to keep the same 1.8ish installed height. Oh well, guess we'll just have to find out.

Does anyone know if the 01 z06 valve are lighter at all or heavier then the stock ls1 valves?

LS6 valves are 6 mm longer
If the LS6 valves are longer, would someone run into a problem if they had those LS6 valves and a 224/224 with .563 lift?

I thought the '01's ls6 valves are the same as the ls1 valves.

So what I'm getting so far is that the 01 z06 exhaust valve is not sodium filled. Does that mean the valve is hollow or is it just a taller version of the standard ls1 exhaust valve? Surely someone has to know and I can't seem to find the answer via searching. thanks.

After doing more research it seems if they have made the switch to these "light weight valves" in 2002. I was not able to find out what the valves from the 01 are like though (i.e. if they are solid stainless deals or hollow or what). From what i've been told they are .232" longer then ls1 valves and if they are the same material as normal ls1 valves then this would make the 01 z06 valves the heaviest of the stock corvette/fbody valves.

You might be able to figure it out if you can get the base circle measurement on a stock 01 Z06 cam, if it is the same as the LS1 cam than it is likely the valves are identical. I believe they are.

If you get Sodium-filled Ls6 valves (which I THINK are longer) then you have to get shorter pushrods...7.35 I think (7.40 are stockers...)

Agian, don't quote me on the fact that light-zo6 vlaves are longer....but that's what I heard....

stupid gm..they never get something right the first time.

Edit: i just called my local chevy dealer and asked them to cross reference part numbers for the valves between a 2001 and 2002 LS6.

He came back with this info

"all intake and exhaust valves from 99-04 have the same parts numbers for LS1 and LS6"

wtf?

i think it's time to start e-mailing or calling engine builders that have torn these motors apart on a consistant basis.

I called another Chevy dealer and this guy had some different information. He sounded annoyed so i didnt want to bother him any further..

he just gave me price differences

2001 LS6 valve 36 dollars
2002 LS6 valve 89 dollars

and he confirmed that the part numbers were different though i didn't ask him for them.

Then i asked about the difference between the 2001 Ls1 and 2001 Ls6 valve.

he said they are !!!!(put me on hold for 5 minutes then he hung up )

Just checked my Corvette parts CD:

Exhaust: LS1 - 12555907
Intake: LS1 - 12563063

Exhaust: 2001 LS6 - 12555907
Intake: 2001 LS6 - 12563063

They are the same valve

Whoever posted that the Z06 valves are 6mm longer could you reverify your information please.

I just went out to the garaged and measured my 2002-up Z06 valves and yes they are longer, but by 0.76mm or around .030" and not the 6mm posted. I thought that sounded like too much of a difference.

Again the difference I just measured was 0.76mm

so not enough to make a lot of difference.

Good catch! I would like verification on this also.
