Default Trying to decide on cam, 3 choices

Hey. I'm trying to decide on 3 cams. Currently 216/220 .525/.532 114.

Application: Roadrace (sees 3,000 to 6,500rpm for about 2 hours per track day)

Want something more to compliment TEA S1 Heads (strong mid lift flow), Kooks LT's, and LW LS6 Valves. I'm going to run CC 918's, Ti retainers, and don't want astronomical lifts. Durability is key.

The cams I'm deciding on:

Crane Cams 224/224 .551"/.551" 114 LSA (3,000 to 6,500rpm, 7,100rpm float)
Comp Cams 224/228 .534"/.537" 112 LSA (2,000 to 6,800rpm)
Lunati 224/224 .560"/.560" 112 LSA (2,500 to 6,000rpm)

Anybody know how different the cam lobe profiles are between the 3 brands? I don't want some snappy drag race profile. I'd rather a less aggressive one.

I like the .551" lift on the Crane, but I also like the 112 LSA of the Lunati. RPM ranges are listed by manufacturers.....but unsure how realistic they really are.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.....Comp is $350, Crane is $400, and Lunati is $300.

Opinions please!

That is a good road cam:

DUR @ .004" 286*/ 286*
DUR @ .050" 224*/224*
LIFT .551/.551
OVERLAP 58*
LSA 114*
Power range 2600>6500

CRANE accelerated lift lobes

You might also want to take a look at the VHP cams, there are a couple there that would be good for the RPM range you are seeking. I went with the 216/224 .551/.551 115LSA and am pleased with the mid-range pull. Peak power is at 5,800 RPM, not what everyone is seeking but what I was looking for.

Wow that's a tough one. I can see where you are having trouble. I don't know the answer to your question, but I wonder why the TR224 wasn't one of your choices?

Personally, I want aggressive lobe profiles.

I stated I don't want aggressive lobe profiles, because the cars not doing 3 runs down the dragstrip a day, it's seeing 2 hours of high rpm every track day.

Yeah...I've seen that one before. That is for all out racing. Did you see the Duration? 251 on E, and the LSA is a 106....

I saw that. It looks like the valves close every once in a while.

That's possible and these guys can afford to strip their motor down after every race. They only run 10 or so races a year, and have $$$.

go big or go home yet your best choice would probably be a tr 224 or 224/248

I think I'm going to grow some ***** and up my lift to .563" and go with a TR-224-12. Wonder if they could do a 110 or 111? The lobes on this cam aren't too aggressive are they? Was also considering the TR224-227.

I'm also thinking about the second cam on your list ie, Comp Cams 224/228 .534"/.537" 112 +2 LSA 110 ICL (2,000 to 6,800rpm). Less frequent valve spring changes, hopefully. I'm trying to locate a dyno graph and sound clip of idle but no luck so far.

I think I've changed my decision:

224/224 .568"/.568" 110LSA 106CL Comp XE Lobe
