Default heli-coil failed, now what?

So I thought that fixed that rocker bolt thread but when I started the car up the bolt came off again, after i took it off and saw that the heli threads were stripped out and they were on the bolt leaving the new threaded holes stripped put. what do I do next? get a larger heli-coil? It also stripped another rocker and it broke the rocker mounting tray.

Whats causing the threads to continuously strip out? I dont think you can put a helicoil in a helicoil. Maybe you can find another type of threaded insert thats a little bigger than the helicoil, but it may be time for a new head.

frist it was the shop that over torqued them, now it just didnt hold up. would a bigger bolt fit the stock rocker?

I wouldnt try a bigger bolt, just look and see if theres a solid threaded insert that has a larger outer thread than the helicoil, but the normal m-8 inner thread

There is something called a Keensert that might fix it. First, why are they stripping out. A heli-coil will not strip out if properly installed as it is stronger than the original threaded hole. I think you have some bigger issues here. What is the setup?

Keensert

There are other thread repair kits that might work. Never heard of keenert but it seems simmilar to timesert. Its kinda like a piston sleeve with threads.

Those Keensert things are cool vettenuts! But I would say that you might be looking at some new heads if they are still a huge PITA.

you should be able to just take the old heli coil out and then put a new one in. you could always take it to napa and they should have someone that can do that kind of stuff. but you arent going to be able to go bigger because the bolt won't be able to fit through the rocker.

Take it to a machine shop, have them fill the hole with weld, then drill and tap another hole.

Default thread repair

You can not repair that with another helicoil if the hole is stripped. You don't want to try and weld it either. You will make a mess of the head.

E-Z Lock available through mscdirect.com on the internet.
8 mm x 1.25 pitch insert part number is: 99762346

They make a stainless insert as well. I don't recommend stainless steel for this application.

The outside thread on that insert is 1/2 - 13. That should be more than large enough to fix the stripped hole. You will also need the installation tool: 86767381

Cost for both is under $20.

It would be best to remove the head and do this on a Bridgeport or cylinder head machine. If you are very careful about drilling and tapping the hole straight, it can be done in place.

Do exactly what Ferocity02 said...take it to a mechanic or machine shop, have them weld/tap it. Good as new. This would be cake for them. Don't f around with 'goofy' fixes, do it right. No big deal.

you guys are right, can avoid doing it right, the good news is that Gunnar from Patriot said the fix it for free, good cust. service. bad news is it will be 3 weeks, so since I havent driven my car going on 10 months Ill try a local shop first.
I have ARP studs, I dont have to take them off right? I should be able to lift the head from them and slide over right? Its a Camaro.
