Default So I was taking the rings off my hurt #7 piston...

Back in november, I thought the car was kinda sluggish. Only ran 10.7x in real good air...so I thought a tear down was in order.

Found a cracked ringland

In all reality that didn't look too bad. But today, I decided to get a look at the back side of the rings (in the ring lands) and the piston did this

I definately ran 10.70 on 7 cylinders

Thought that was pretty interesting...Nothing like blowing out ringlands on a N/A car

Wow, that's scary. What exactly is your setup and how high were you spinning it?

GTP heads Trex cam at the time. shifted ~7200.

RPM didn't do it...it was stupidity. The time before I ran on 93 octane in
-2000 ft air with .040 milled 5.3L heads... a bit too much for pump gas

Good Luck,
just felt sluggish off the line and was down about 3-4 tenths (30-40 hp)

big sign was the rear grommet on the driver side valvecover blew out from the crankcase pressure...at the time I didn't equate it to that...

What gasket were you using? I'm planning to run 5.3 heads, only .005 mill to clean up, .042 gasket, and F13 cam.
Can you send me the specs on the Trex cam from the cam card so I can compare DCR against the cam I'm planning? Thanks.

Damn that sucks. Stock pistons, right? What are your new plans, another "budget" SB, or something else?

I was having the same symptoms, sluggish and a few tenths off. I found scratches on #7 cylinder last night. The engine is coming out this week and I suspect the same has happened to me. This had been an FI engine and had encountered some detonation.

somebody's stock rods/pistons, just not stock to the engine I was running. I replaced them a few years ago

I wasn't running stock rings though. I had diamond pro selects at .018/.022

Sounds like everyone running on the edge re compression ratio should get their injectors flowed and find ~a +5% one for #7 cylinder...
