Lookin for a torque monster
lookin for suggestions for a good torque cam that pulls hard from like 1800 on up to about 6200 , also with a good lope, like a 110-112 lsa.

Or an XE-R 224° .581" 110° LSA +4° (106° IC).
Or an XE-R 226° .585" 111° LSA +3° (108 IC). I would not go much bigger than those for low end torque. I think Futral has a 226° cam that is in between those XE-Rs with like .575" lift and that might also work, but he does not release all cam details so I do not know what the duration is at .006" and .200". If I could get that info, I'd plug it into the valve events calculator and see when the valves open and close.
The XE cam listed above closes the intake valve at 64.5° (pretty soon for big dynamic compression and hence, torque). The XE-R 226° closes the intake valve at 66°, slightly later, but the bigger duration at .050", and much larger duration at .200" with the larger lift should equal to more dynamic compression and hence, more torque .

Ryan,
Read the stickies at the top of the internals and externals forums.
You'll get plenty of info.
Also, Texas Speed, Thunder Racing, Speed Inc, MTI, Futral etc. etc. etc. are all great retailers which you can call to discuss what they can set you up with.

Since so many of you recommended that cam, is their anyone here that has run the cam with no PTV issues?

I believe he had no issues, but was on stock heads. Hopefully that means it would require .030 at the max. What do you think of these pushrod calcs. And do you check the pushrod length and lash with my replacement lifters or my welded lifters?

You check with your replacement lifters. Any solid lifter will not preload so the valve will open.
Solid lifter and light spring is used for PTV (dial indicator) measurements, 10* ATDC and BTDC

Looking at your measurements. 1.455 base circle
Your cam is .095 smaller in base circle. (1.55 stock)
So that would require 7.40+.047 = 7.447 (if stock valves)
7.447-.0236 (LS6 valve dif)=7.423
7.423-.030 (mill)= 7.393
So 7.400 should be your closest length. (assuming your base measurement is correct)

You're correct, I goofed (was rushing), corrected it.
Also let me point out saw "replacement lifter", unless they are factory ones, replacement cup height will differ from stock, that was not taken into account.
what lifters are you running? My 850-16 Comp were a tad longer at the cup..
But, this is a guestimate, no substitute for measuring exactly. (unless you have ALL exact measurements, compressed gasket thickness, lifter cup to bearing length, base circle, mill, valve length, head deck height etc...)
This is the main reason we have to measure and not take calc for granted, but it gives a pretty good idea. (it is more accurate the less variables you change).
I think your 7.375 will work fine, but IIRC you're puting HS rockers, just make sure you have your geometry correct, before you adjust p-rod length for preload. Do a swipe test to center the roller bearing on the valve tip (shiming rocker stand to correct), then measure lifter preload.

Cool. Yes, I have HS rockers. I ordered up shims yesterday in many sizes from McMaster yesterday in order to do the swipe test and shim the pedestal. Yes, I am also going with 850-16's. I'm hoping the 7.375's work in the end b/c I ordered a set, but I still have the hardened 7.400's from my last cam too.
Understood!
Also orderd an adjustable pushrod and checker springs. Hoping to be dialed in soon in order to either flycut or start bolting the heads back on!

Want a torquer cam?
Small cam (intake in the teens)
Tight LSA (112 or less)
Split duration (to help it breathe and give you an extra 100rpm)
High lift (above 560)
It will idle at 700rpm and pull STRONG through the mid-range. I picked up 40rwhp by doing exactly this but mostly the torque gains are incredible. Made my 3000 stall into a 3600 stall.
Oh yeah - with this setup and sticky tyres 11s are gimmes for an otherwise cam only GTO.

P/N are 3088- A466, A431, A321, A361
These are 3/8ID x 5/8OD 1010 Carbon Steel which is the size recommended for Harlan Sharp Rockers. Other rockers may require different diameters, not sure!
