Which timing chain and oil pump with new TR224/224 cam?
As stated I want to replace the timing chain and oil pump while I am getting a cam swap, which chain and pump should I purchase? DD no track time, car is a M6 2000. Also any suggestions on springs and retainers for the 224/224 .563 .563 114 cam? TIA

Car will have 67xxx miles on it when cam goes in this spring. I figured I'd have those changed out while Mike from Rapid was in there. When do the stock timing chain and oil pump usually get replaced?

When I had cam and such done, at 50k, I just left them. But if you want some cheap insurance, get them done. At the time I really didn't have the money, at all, and was told it would most likely be fine. If you have the money, then there is no reason not to get them changed out.

Yeah I am getting new pushrods while I'm at it, how bout titanium retainers? Are they needed or are they just trying to sell me stuff I don't REALLY need?
List was to be as follows: Oil pump, timing chain, titanium retainers, pushrods, and springs. The springs I know I need. The pump and chain I was gonna do as maintenance since he is going to be in there. Do i Need pushrods and titanium retainers?

I went with TI retainers on my previous car. I just did the whole shooting match. Dual springs, TI retainers, hardened spring seats, new locks, chromoly pushrods, new valve seals of course.

What are the titanium retainers for? I want to have the pump changed and chain just as good maintenance while he is in there....th epushrods I figured because I hear people complain about bent pushrods, the retainers I don't know anything about.

The titanium retainers are only needed if you plan on spinning your engine rpms higher than 6500 rpms or so....with the cam you have titanium retainers are def. not required but if you get a good deal on a kit that comes with them like i did why not. Also they may slightly reduce valvetrain noise because of the fact they lighten it up a little. In your case unless you plan on up grading cams in the future i wouldnt worry about them.

Yeah I def. don't go that high in the RPM band. I drive 90% of the time in the 1500-4500 band, which is why I am going with the TR224 cam, and when I do punch it it's only up to 5200 RPMS and shift. Looks like the retainers were more $$$ they were trying to get from me.

well with that new cam your probly going to want to bring it to about 6000 or so to get the most out of it. Youll have new pushrods and chain so 6000 is def. safe i would maybe even say 6200. Just get a dyno and see where you need to shift when you get it tuned.
