Thumbs down loosing oil but no leak

need help finding a good mechanic in the area. my ls1 is loosing oil, about 1 qt. or more per 3000 miles, but there is no oil spot on ground or leaks that i can see on the bottom of the engine. also, sometimes get a strong oil smell after starting engine. any ideas about the problem and where i can get this checked out?

your valve stem seals might be either cracked or not seated all the way. Take off the valve covers and check them out.

Not hard at all, Just keep the cylinder pressurized, pull the spring, pull the seal off then relace with the new one. Then put the spring back on.

What oil are you running? I was running a thin synthetic. 5-20 redline I think it was. I came to the conclusion that I was loosing it through my pcv into the intake. Maybe try running a thicker oil and see if that solves your problem. Its alot easier than ripping into your engine.

i use a 5w or 10w 30. i usually use castrol and have actually tried using diff. weights but no significant effect. thanks for the input. back in sept. i started my car one morning and the valves started clicking. this was the first and only time it happened. i monitor the oil level weekly and change every 3k miles. so i'm think that it definitely is an issue with the valves or seals.

I would check the PCV system first.Maybe install a catch can.You can check it by looking behind the TB and see if there is an oil puddle in the intake.
