Default Will 1.8 ratio rockers/stock cam make the exhaust sound cooler

will adding 1.8 ratio rockers/stock cam give me a lopey sounding exhaust with stock cam?

they claim 8-10 HP gain so I can actually expect what about 3HP, mainly looking for cooler sound.

Thanks

maybe if you mix it up and use a 1.7 on one valve and a 1.8 on the other valve

No it will not. Actually it made things a bit quieter and smoother. Did help in bringing up the torque. At the time I installed them I felt a decent gain. And now with F/I they have brought the TQ & HP closer together.

Back when I installed them I was not real heavy into modding and then I changed. If you plan on doing more down the road I would go with a cam and upgrade springs ect. Vs the arms. Then you will have your many choices of sound and where you want the power.

If you use 1.8 rockers and you get a cam in the future, the 1.8's will severly limit your cam choices. For the money 1.8 rockers as a power upgrade are one of the worst investments.

I had them and they were worthless when I wanted to get serious with a different cam. Even the 220/224 cam I had first couldn't use the 1.8's. Stay away from Harlan Sharps/SLP rockers regardless of ratio. Trust me.

yeah dont do it. you will need new springs also, and when you combine the cost of those two you should have just gotten a new cam

Get a cam, leave the rockers alone.

I noticed in your sig that you have an Atlanta address. I've done numerous cam installs, if you want I can do the whole thing in one day. Cam, springs, pulley if you want to do that at the same time. Cheap prices. I can help you get a killer deal on the supplies. Let me know. -Joshua

This is a copy of nhraformula's dyno sheet, before and after the SLP 1.85 rocker arms. This was on an A4.

Default Rocker Answer

No Adding Larger Ratio Rockers Will Not Increase The Idle Sound, But Will Affect Cam Opening And Closing, As Well As Duration A Little Bit. The Rockers To Do This With Is The Crane Cams Quick Lift Rockers. Part #144759-16. This Is A Complete Kit With Rockers, Pushrods, Guideplates, And Studs. They Are Price But These Rockers On A Stock Cam Ls1 Will Produce Between 18-25hp To The Rear Wheels(no Joke), And Even More If You Use A Crane Quick Lift Profile Cam. Im Not Trying To Sell You Rockers, Just Answering Your Question. Don't Believe Everything You Here About The Ls1 Rocker Arm, The Cranes Really Do Work, Ask Some Of You Top Engine Builders Out There, They Will Tell You. I've Installed Plenty Of Them To Date, And Had No Complaint As Well As Nothing But Power Increase As Well To. Good Luck!

i changed my stock rockers to 1.85s a few years ago. i gained like 10 rwhp and 14 rwtq.
it didnt change the exhaust note at all. it did make the engine sound like a sewing machine.
well i cammed my car. needless to say the 1.85 had to go and stock rockers are back on.

dont waste youre money is the moral of this story.

I couldnt agree with this more!I bought the Crane 1.8's about a month ago and now I keep kicking myself in the nuts for not going with a bigger cam. I finally found a cam I'm going to go with, but not having the 1.8's would of made it so much easier.I had the whole I'll stick with the Hotcam attitude. Now its not enough.

Justanilluzion, why do you say Cranes are a waste. They're one of the best ls1 rockers on the market.Unless your just saying for this guy not to get 1.8's,then you shouldnt just say Cranes. All 1.8's are a waste and I actually own them. And its not that they're even a waste. It all depends on what goals you have for your car.My goals changed overnight. I'm only keeping them because of their cost.Like said before though, your slightly limited to smaller cams unless you go custom or ditch the 1.8's.
