Default How many of you f13 guys are running stock lifters without problems

I'm Thinking about an f13/comparable cam. I would like to no what (if any) risk is involved with just using stock lifters.

Are you running stock lifters with a f13/comparable cam? How many miles do you have on your stock lifters with the new cam.

Thanks

I've got 15k on the lifters with the cam, 87k total on the motor. I won't know how they look until the summertime when I change out the heads and throw some new ones in there.

I installed my f13 at 75K miles. by 88K 5 lifters had started to come apart.

Some people dont have any problem with lifters, however I have seen atleast three threads about the same thing happening on an f-13 cam. Maybe its coincidence because the f13 is becoming one of the most popular cams around.

For what its worth, I did notice the cam still had tooling marks and groves on the lobes when i bought it. they wernt polished smooth.

Rhythmic tapping in sets of 3 or 4 every few seconds. Sounded like someone picking up a handful of marbles and dropping one at a time into a coffee can, then it would go away for a few seconds so the motor could pick up another handful of marbles. At first I though it was my exhaust banging, but it didnt corespond with bumps in teh road.

I tried reusing the f13 cam that had a few small pits from the broken lifters, but it tore up the new set in about 6K miles. Now Ive got the heads off and cam out... All winter has been unseasonably warm here in the northeast, until of courese i needed to tear down my daily driver. Now its frigid again.

I went with melling lifters from futral. Theyre pretty cheap. The comp 850's are a few bucks more. The 850's dont lose their pin like the 875's do (comp -R's).

Hmmm, pits like that are caused by either a bad surface on the cam to begin with or lack of oil to the lifters....I never had a stock lifter fail, and but then again Ive always run comp cams....

i would reuse the stockers if there is no visual signs of wear. if u get in there and see some wear or damage replace them all

How many of you cam only guys went through the trouble of changing just your lifters and not the heads.

You have to pull the heads to change the lifters?! I don't remember having to do that.. I'm probably thinking of the LT1 though.

when mine is cold(never does it when warm) it makes a weird kind of clattering sound on initial take off, but i also heard it pre-cam when my lt's were installed. has gotten a little worse after f-13. is this the sound that they make when they are going out??
