Default Spark Plugs For Darts Confused

What are the correct plugs for Dart PRO1's? I called NGK and they suggested BKR7EIX-11 (6988) with my soon to be set up, which is a gasketed plug. E-mailed Dart and they said that would be a good plug. Now I am hearing people using TR55's or TR6's, which are tapered seat plugs. Whats up? Thanks

You need to use a 3/4" reach gasketed plug. The tapered seat plugs may seal temporarily (sp?) but it's kinda like running the wrong seat lugnuts on your wheels - not gonna do for the long term.

Whoa, good information. I was just getting ready to buy a set of TR 55's.

Question for Dart, is there a torque specification for the plugs?

How about gap?

DANG!!!! I installed the wrong plugs.
I INCORRECTLY assumed that since it was an LS1 head, it would use the same plug so I installed the TR6's in mine! (didn't leak either)
What would be a good TR6 equivilant "nitrous plug"??

I put TR55's in mine and have had no problems. I have got about 300 miles on it so far.

If you like the NGK plugs (I do!) you could use the FR-5, FR-6, or the R5671A-7, -8,-9 etc. And the torque specs are 18 ft. lbs.

hooch
What would be the direct replacement for the TR6 plug? I "occasionally" spray 125hp nitrous, so I need a little colder plug, but not enought to give issues with fouling

The NGK FR6 should do for that or for more serious spray situations you can get into the NGK R5671-8's (std tip) or NGK R5672-8 (projected tip). Dart went with the 3/4" reach gasketed plug in those heads 'cuz there are more choices in heat range than taper seat plugs.

Is the FR 6 more or less equivalent to the TR 6 in heat range? I prefer a copper plug (I don't mind changing them) but wanted the same heat range as the TR 55. Guess I need to take a visit to the NGK web site, it is actually a pretty nice web site.

Yes it is. The FR 5 would do you fine then, just gap it & install.

Do you have a recommended gap? The NGK web site shows they come at 0.039" but the original gap for the LS1 is more on the order of 0.060".

Open them up. The "extra" 5 on your TR5"5" stands for it coming with a factory .059" gap as opposed to a TR5 with a .039" gap. Now hurry up VN! Get that thing together and .

I'm one to talk ---- but --- I'm gonna get off the computer and go out to the garage now!

heh, I didnt even pay any attention and have been using TR-6s in mine, just ASSumed they used the same plugs as stock LS1 heads since they are LS1 heads

TR-6s are good enough for 144mph in the 1/4 though lol.

A tech sheet can be e-mailed to any of you that may not have received one with your heads. The tech sheet has spark plugs rec's, etc. For some reason it doesn't appear on our site either (?) but we'll get that fixed asap.

FWIW, it appears FR-6 doesnt exist except a FR6EI which is a 12.00 each super duper plug lol. FR5 is still a good number.

So it looks like 3922-3923 autolites for cheap, easy to find TR6 replacements for the gasket seat heads.

Or the NGK R5671A-8's or R5671A-7's (A is for 5/8 hex) but I dont think those are resistor plugs. May cause some interference in the PCM using the non resistor plugs..

If you insist on V-power NGK then BCPR6EY-11 (.044 gap) or BCPR7EY-11 should do it for colder then stock plugs.

maybe

There was nothing in either box, I even broke them down flat since I saved them for future head shipping (nice boxes ). I sent you a PM with my e-mail address.

There are a zillion different NGK plugs, the BKR7E will work also, I dont have exact engineering data but I think the BK is ISO height (2mm longer gasket to tip) then the BCPR and may be a better choice. I get a headache looking at plugs lol.

The plugs they reccomended in your first post were irridium or whatever.

I'll just use the autolite 3922/23 for now
