Does Anyone have a GM Hot Cam?
I am looking at buying one but am also trying to keep costs to a minimum. I am gonna do it myself. Here are the specs; 218/227 .525/.525 112LSA. Can you guys list an estimate gain with this cam and do you recommend this cam?

I've seen a post from a guy here that had an ls6 intake with full exhaust and tune..he then added the hot cam and the underdrive crank pulley and gained 61rwhp from it!!!!! I'll let you know what I think of it as soon as I get it in. Do a search for "hot cam" and you should be able to find some good posts about this cam here on the forum...as well as some videos and sound clips of it good luck with your choice..

I've been running the hot cam for 3 years now. I gained about 55hp with this cam and full exhaust minus the underdrive pulleys. I dynoed 319 with just a lid, I made 374hp/371tq to the wheels. It has a nasty idle that anyone can notice. I get complimented on the idle all the time. I managed to pull a 12.7@115mph in the 1/4 mile. I know with a little more practice I can deffinately lower that significantly. It pulls hard from 2,500rpm, nice low to mid range torque. Alot of people will say that's old tech, get a new cam. I'd say BS. I'm putting down similar #'s to 224 cams with my "little old tech" hot cam.
By the way the specs are 219/228 .525/.525 112lsa. And you can save a few $$$ by getting the whole kit from Summit. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I've been driving my car pretty agressively and got 19 mpg with it, even with 3.73's and a big stall. I do have problems with mine from time to time surging and not wanting to act right, seems to be hard to tune. They have many pluses and minuses, but if I had it to do over again I'd go bigger. (Which I will soon )

The hotcam's bark is bigger than it's bite. While it does have its advantages, such as being inexpensive and being gentle on springs... The hotcam will only gain you about half what some of the bigger cams will gain you, while still sounding similar and having comparible road manners. If you want an inexpensive first "starter" cam, this is a good choice, but dont be surprised when the other 22x cammed cars walk you pretty hard.

I would check these guys out http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/3876...-Camshafts.htm they have custom cams plus the hotcam for 429.00, they have the ASA for even cheaper 374.00 this cam might be to thumpy for ya, its got lots of overlap but from what I hear does have awesome low end torque. I myself am tryin to decide which to go with- maybe ASA or one of sdpc cams, which are cheaper and you can have them change the numbers if you want. I was thinking something like 228/228 551/551 112 or 336/236 551/551 113 would be nice and powerful and still retain good street manors with a tune, and still be cheaper than the hotcam and put out more power as well, plus you don't have to worry about changing springs often, as theses cams aren't very hard on them just like the hotcam

been in two years no 22x cammed cars walk on me, i would advise on getting better valve springs than the LS-6' you never know you may want to go bigger so why have to do springs again they are a bigger PITA than a cam swap.

I agree that if you stick a TR224 in the same car, but there are soooooo many other factors, that you can't consider cam-alone.

All things being equal, i could easily see a 224 making more power. I mean, after all thats the only way to compare one cam to another..
