Default Machine work on a block for pistons and rods

I was wondering I plan on buying forged pistons and rods to run a 250 shot and had a question about cost. If I took the motor out myself, took it apart, and took the block to a machine work how much would they charge me to hone the block? Im just doing pistons and rods so would I just need to have the block honed or what else would I need to do? But my main question is how much would it cost? Thanks.

I think if you got new rods and pistons you would need to get crank, rods, dampner, pistons and flywheel balanced. I'm in the same boat as you-if you the block looks good why not just hone yourself?

Well im going to stay away from an aftermarket crank because its a waste of money. I know a bunch of guys on stock cranks running 300-400 shots with their D.D's and a bunch of them running 15-20lbs of boost all on a stock crank so thats a waste of money to me.

Stock crank is fine, just get it rebalanced.

yea ok but what if i wanna strokeer, he never specified what he was building??

back to the subject...i had a dirtbike cylinder honed once at a local shop and they charged me $40...now i dont know if the setup for an 8 cylinder block is different from a single....now IF they charge you by each bore, $40x8= about $300..

I didn't mean get a new crank-stock crank is great-it's just when you get new rods and pistons you have to send the crank out too to get balanced.

All right im confused, the place I bring it to to get honed, they cant balance the crank? Also my build is just going to be a stock block on stock cubes with just forged rods and pistons to handle a 250-300 shot every now and then.

I work at race engine shop and we charge $225 to hone, $175 to balance the rotating assembly. You will also have some charges for initally cleaning the block.....about $75, pin fitting the pistons......$45, resize the rods if needed(some brand new rods are way off), final washing the block ready for assembly.....$40, install cam bearings.....$35, mill the deck surface....$100, checking the align bore size....$40, polishing the crank as long as it doesnt have to be turned.....$50. Then you will have a race ready block ready to go together! Good luck on your build up!
