Your not gonna like this ansewer.

You may have to pull the head and remove and inspect the lifters.

If you don't have any oil flowing from the lifter through the pushrod, something is not good.

Did you "prime" them before the install?

yeah. i primed them before hand. no way to check them besides pulling the head. If not how would you check them once you got them out.

How's your oil pressure? And which oil pump are you using?

That's little low for that pump IMO. I don't know for sure but that oil pressure should be enough. Anyone else comment on this?

Is there a chance that there is some debris inside the pushrods?

I'm afraid it's sounding like you'll need to pull the head and inspect the lifters.

Did you modify the lifter tray at all?

Yes. drilled oil drains. Did as directed by ls1/ls6 performance book.

40 psi at idle hot is normal.

I wish I could be more helpful. I'm be no means an expert with this stuff. But is there a chance that the lifters are not facing in the correct direction to receive the oil?

.....The drill mod wouldn't cause your problem IMO.

by adjusted, you mean torqued to 22 ft-lb? you know the valvetrain is non-adjustable right?

Ralldu, it might be helpful to give some more specifics about your set up. Like valve size, cam size, type of valve springs.

And I guess we can't rule out lowish oil pressure as the cause. Low pressure of course could cause a colapsed a lifter of three. I think this might cause oil to not get up the pushrod, maybe.

If you have a pushrod length checker, I think you could diagnose a colapsed ligter. IE if the pushrod checker indicates a disproportionately long pushrod for a given cylinder it would suggest that the lifter is shorter than it should be, in other words colapsed.

Ok, forget the pushrod checker then. If you had to pick up a lot more slack at the rocker than the others, that might also indicate a colapsed lifter.

were you coming from a stock setup?

Lifters direction has no meaning, several post here on that, search or call TSP

If you aree coming from stock setup, your whole valve train will get louder.

What did you set your preload to? .005"? .050"?

i came from a stock set up. and i dont know what the preload is set at. many people and a few articles ive read informed me to adjust them down while twisting the pushrods till there was drag on them then torque. question: why would half the rockers be getting oil through the pushrods and half of the not, while idle. and the noise sounds like it is coming from the driver side. ive checked everything i could think of. thanks for the input everyone.

To clarify this problem a bit more we can say that you do not know how to set-up a valvetrain, you're getting noise, so you come on here to ask why.

Stock LS1 valvetrain is not readily adjustable as is unless you convert to studs & guideplates.

In stock configuration, the way they are adjusted is by the use of different length (the correct length) pushrods, and/or rocker shims (spacers).
To get this right the first step is to measure the preload on the lifter, and measure the rocker to valve geometry... as in the contact patch on the tip of the valve.

I suggest NOT skipping the first step in this process.
