Default ZO6 Cam in a Yukon XL 5.3L

Hey guys,
I had a quick question and you all seemed like the guru's to ask!-- I have an oppurtunity to buy a ZO6 cam, valve springs and locks, seal, main bolt, but before I jumped at it, I was curious to exactly what the benefits to this cam swap would be? Would it be a mile idle and lope compared to the stock? and what performance gains would I be looking at?? Thanks very much for your help!

The idle will the same. I doubt you'll be able to notice a difference. You'll pick up some power but that strongly depends on your supporting mods.

Well, not much modded right now, except for a Westers 91/93 Hot Tune and K&N. Plan on doing a Supercharger this summer....

What year Z06 cam is it? Should be a good cam for a blower. When I swap cams in my Z06, I'm going to put the Z06 cam in my RCSB GMC.

My old LS6 cam setup showed only minor gains from off idle to 4500rpms. I'm talking 10rwhp and 10rwtq over the stock cam with the same boltons. From 4500rpms to 6500rpms is where the LS6 cam shines and makes it's most power. It's very possible to gain 50rwhp over the LS1 cam at 6500rpms and the stock LS1 cam is falling off qucikly while the LS6 cam is beginning to fall.

Keep in mind it's a complete top end cam and likes to be revved.

If you want a very mild cam, take a look at what adding just a a TR220/114 and Comp 918 springs did to a bone stock and I mean bone stock 05 5.3. It gained another 25 hp peak over this graph after cutting the cats off and adding a cold air kit. But forget about the peak gains. Look at the gains at 5700 rpm.

Z06 cams seem to add a lot more top end than anything else. I'm not sure thats exactly what you want in a truck.

I'd recommend something like Thunder Racings Old Man Truck Cam, a moderate increase in intake duration, plenty of exhaust duration to help balance out that supercharger and stock exhaust manifolds, and a bit wider lobe separation than most performance cams (short of the LS6).

I wouldn't bother spending the coin on that setup.

You've got a big rig, and should probably look more towards a cam providing some low end grunt.
