Default DragonSlayer or CompStar Crankshafts

Has anyone had any experience with the Callies DragonSlayer or CompStar cranks for any application (LS1/SBC/SBF)? I know that the CompStar isn't available for the LS1, but I just was wondering what experiences folks have had on these lower priced Callies cranks versus the higher priced Callies Racemaster, Magnum, Magnum XP. My main interests are quality of materials and workmanship (i.e.: concentricity of journals, taper, counterweight clearance at BDC, necessity of heavy metal to balance, etc).

Thanks in advance,

Steve

I beleive Callies has the compstar crank available. The compstar is just not the high dollar crank. Its fine. Never heard anyone have any issues with any aftermarket crank. Even the Eagle, which is cheap.

Actually, there are a number of threads about the machining quality of the Eagles althought they may be the best value on the market, but . . . maybe not. That's why I'm asking this question.

Actually, according to conversations with Callies, the DragonSlayer is forged in Ohio, receives a lesser degree of nitriding than the Racemaster, Magnum and Magnum XL. It is then machined on the same equipment as the other cranks mentioned, but not to nearly the same degree as far as lightening, streamlining to minimize windage, etc.

The CompStar is forged and rough machined in Asia and imported into the US where it is nitrided and receives final machining at the Ohio plant. As I understand it, the progression of cost and features (starting from the bottom) is CompStar, DragonSlayer, Racemaster (no longer listed in Callies Catalog as a model although remaining stock available for purchase), Magnum and Magnum XL.

Whether it is made here or over seas, if Callies has there name on it, they will stand behind it. So i say go for the Compstar.
