Default Free drop on Dart 225s v. Stock LS1 Heads

Patrick G and I are working on a Heads/Cam selection for my new project. I want strong power up to 7k RPM with good Dynamic Compression. I'm currently planning on getting Dart 225s and using a .040" gasket and getting Patrick's recommended cam, 232/236 .644/.646 110LSA +1. He wasn't sure about PTV clearance with regard to free drop on the Dart 225s. Someone here (esp one of the Dart guys) must know if the free drop is the same, better, or worse than stock so I can confirm PTV clearances.

Thanks.

P.S. Please don't just tell me to measure. I'm not going to flycut, so I don't want to get everything I need only to find out it won't work.

John from Dart left his cell phone number in another thread on the oil issue, you can probably call him and get an answer quickly.

Well my 1.8's wont fit under the 205's with the sdpc 220/224 cam. Only around 0.020 clearance. Seems due to larger 2.02 valve. So Im having to run 1.7's. (Must change my sig!)
Id have thought it would be fine. Thats with stock MLS gasket too. 0.006 duration is 282/286

With that much lift and duration I doubt it will fit with .040 gaskets and stock pistons. Maybe a good reason to go forged pistons with valve reliefs.

Holey cow? Did you measure? I am running the next one down (216/224 0.551/0.551 115 LSA) and thought I might go back to my 1.8 rockers, maybe I can't. I knew I should have measured the PV while it was apart

Yep the shop measured with plastercine and called to say it was too tight. Cam has 56 deg overlap at 0.006. I saw you were using the 1.7's (Same crane/vinci/sdpc cam as you say but next one up..) The guy doublechecked cam timing, thats dot to dot with 4 deg advance ground in. So with stock 1.7's will be around 0.060 or so clearance .

I didn't bother checking my PV while it was apart since my cam was so small. I had intended to return to the 1.8 rockers, but now I am not so sure since I can't measure it.

Yeah assuming the shop dude set the cam timing up right, and I have no doubt he has, then I think you will certainly want to check clearance first. Exhaust was ok btw.

Would it be correct to assume the 205's would be the same??

205's have 2.02 valve as opposed to 2.05 on the 225's so slightly more drop Id say.
The reduction in drop over stock is interesting.

sorry to say it but not going to fit, i had to cut my pistons, and i'm running slghtly smaller then the cam your looking at.

I was at .060 on the intake which is a little to tight, with your cam your prolly goin tto be in teh .040 area.

But honestly i just cut my pistons today for the first time, and its not hard at all, took me no longer then an hour and half.
