Default Stock LS6 heads with TSP Cam...what pushrods?

I have stock LS6 heads and gaskets and I want to put a TSP 224/224, .566"/.566" 114LSA tsp cam. I talked to Zack at TSP and he says the 7.4" manley hardened pushrods I already have are ok to use. Sounds like the 7.375"s are a better bet according to PREDATOR-Z . My question is what kind of problem if any will I run into using the 7.4"s?

7.40s are fine. You should use 7.425 for either the LS1 or LS6 head and LS6 cam. Assuming unmilled with stock gaskets. FWIW, tsp 231/237, LS1 heads milled .030 and 7.40 pushrods here, no problems.

I wonder why he recommended a 7.375 with the 224/224 cam and unmilled Ls6 heads...That would certainly be too short. I guess it depends if they are bonestock 2001 Ls6 heads or 2002-and up Ls6 heads which had longer valves....

Too short a pushrod will make the engine louder. Im certain Predator was actually talking about the difference between the 2001 and 2002-2004 stock LS6 heads.... 2001 243 Ls6 heads are the same as the new Ls2 heads. 2002-2004 243 Ls6 heads are quite different however beacuse of the NAK filled exhaust valves.

From what I can gather, the base circle on the on the LS6 camshaft is smaller and the valves are are longer to compensate for this smaller base circle. The stock LS6 pushrods are 7.4" just like any LS1 but that means if I'm using a camshaft with the larger LS1 base circle with the longer valves then what PREDETOR-Z is saying sounds right, I may need somewhat smaller pushrods. I guess I was just curious as to whether having pushrods that are maybe ~.025 too long or so is going to cause any problems or if this will cause too much stress on the lifters or valvetrain geometry .

What about an LS1 with a stock LS1 Cam,
stock Z06 heads, only a slight valve job no milling, and GM graphite gaskets. Can I still use the stock Ls1 push rods ?
Thanks Ryan

It all depends on what year the Ls6 heads are? Did they come off a Z06 vette or are they simply 243 castings? The ONLY 243 castings that will have the longer valvestems would be the 2002-2004 Z06 heads. Ones that actually have the NAK filled valves.

Yeah, I have the light weight valves, therefor the longer valves. Heads are from a 2002 Z06.
Flyin Ryan, depending on the amount you mill, it would probably be perfect to use the stock 7.4" pushrods. The milling might take up the slack the longer valves create(if again you have the 02-04 Z06 heads).
I don't plan on milling mine so I want to make sure I don't cause problems.

Milling will require a slighter SHORTER pushrod not longer.... It sounds like you have an XE cam I have no idea how the basecircle of that cam compares to the stock 02 LS6. Compare those two basecircles and then simply add or subtract from the stock pushrod length. Im betting the 7.375s would be damn close.

Yeah sounds right...I think I'm just going to try the 7.4"s. I think the worst it will do is be hard on the lifters. (Crosses fingers)

I would think youd be fine, possibly a little more preload than stock. Unless they actually bottom out, which I HIGHLY doubt with the small differences we are talking about here...You'll be just fine.
