Try 244/248 with stock gears.

I had a 224/228 ground from Comp with a 114 LSA.

What most say is this is the largest you can go before you begin to give up considerable low-end for the gain in the high end.

Chose this for MPG, sound, and overall power gains. I knew I was going to give up a large amount of power in the upper RPM, but I didn't want to floor it to get to the power.

I like full-on top end, but hate the fact that the big cams need 4.xx gears to really take up the slack from the crappy low end.

Sure you can. With properly matched gears or converter you can go pretty big on the street. If you want lope get a cam that lopes and build the rest of the car to match it. Nothing better than a nasty *** lope on a stock looking street car when you go to the grocery store.

It never gets old, trust me.

I daily drive a 237/242 .602/.609 113 in an auto with a 4k stall converter and it's just right.

Go into the 230's at least.

You can also get lope by messing with the idle speed.

great thanks, this is hard to explain to a person who is very inexperienced in engine building lol

i tried to tell him but i showed him the post.

What gears do you have?

I'd like to run a 3600 stall with my stock 3.23s. My other camaro has 4.10s and 4200stall and I don't need 2 fbodies that can't be driven on the highway. I don't understand the need for big gears when one has a stall.

What's the biggest cam I can run with 3.23s?

There really isn't much of a need for big gears when you hve an auto with a converter. I have stock 3.23s.

The size cam you run depends mostly on what you want and how high of a stall speed you go with. For what most of us would consider 'big' you should up to a 3800 or 4,000 stall speed converter. I ran my MS3 on a 3500 for a short time and it really, really likes the 4k stall...the 3500 just wasn't enough.

I'm not going with a cam that big. Maybe something between 228 and 232. I'm also not making this car into a full out drag car. Just want the power for the street. I don't care whether I loose a 1/10 by not going with a stall high enough. As long as it feels fast as hell when I punch it.

I wouldn't go bigger then this unless you are going to go with a big stall speed.

Duration

280/286 224/228 141/140

Valve Lift

Something that wont need a 4000+ stall... with huge gear, that slips way too much. Unless Your M6. If my car was M6 I wouldnt give a ****.

If your converter is too small for your cam it will affect the performance on the street every bit as much as it will at the track. Big converters don't just lose their performance because you aren't at the track.

Also, a converter too small for the cam will lose you more than 1/10.

You should be fine in that range with a 3600 stall speed though.

Hey BlkZ28spt. You got 4L60 with 4k stall ? Does it slip a lot ?
Cuz I got 4400 2.5 STR and I can just feel the HP going everywhere but my rear wheels...
