Default Comp "R" or Comp 850 lifters...for big hyd. roller

I am about to finally throw the cam into my shortblock and was wondering what lifters to run. i have both stock rockers, and also have T&D shaft mounts (for future solid roller build), which of those two part numbers is more suited for the big hydraulic roller cam, lots of RPM and nitrous. also, are the stock rockers going to be better or the T&Ds? can you even run T&Ds with hydraulic setup?

I don't know but don't forget to consider the Lunati and Morel hydrolic lifters.

I wouldnt take a chance with the Comp R Lifters.. They seem to be "hit or miss" with alot of "misses".. Numerous people on this board have had VERY bad luck with the R lifters. The Comp 850 replacements seem to be very good and dependable and work well with just about any build.

The Lunatis are a good choice also from what I have read. The Morel lifters are sooo expensive that I see no reason to use them over lunati, crane, or comps..

the reason i like the comps is the nice price, i am doing a solid roller setup next so i don't want to really spend any more than nessecary right now. the morel hydraulic lifters are way overpriced and the lunatis probably are too for my specific situation. i'm looking at the comps, or cranes. what are the problems that the "R"s are having?

They come apart from the inside and put a nice gouge in your camshaft

That I am not 100% sure of... I am running the 850's with stock rockers for now.. But, I plan to use an adjustable set later on. I see know reason why you couldnt run the 850's with the adjustables..

The 875-16s are the Comp "R"s, otherwise the Pro Magnums. I ran mine for 8k or so and turned 7k and never had a problem. I think the whole deal with people having problems with them is they set them up wrong (too much or too little preload). I had mine with .010 preload and they just purred right along.

i have looked around a little and it kinda seems that the guys that had trouble with the 'R' lifters were the guys that ran them with stock rockers, and people that run the 'R' lifters with an adjustable rocker havn't had any trouble.

Exactly right as long as you get the preload dead nuts at .010 you will not have a problem with the Comp "R"s. I have been running these for a while and regulary bring my motor over 7k with no problems at all.

Dont ever set them at the recommended .004 preload. I floated valves like crazy at that preload.

What about the cranes? I've been running cranes for a while now with a big hydraulic ( 261/267) and i hit 7100 quite often.

crane lifters, stock rockers, manley springs
