Default TSP 231/237 vs. 233/239

What do you guys think about these cams. My main concern is spring life since I drive 20 miles to work one way. I will be using PRC LS6 ported heads from TSP with double springs.

Mods and numbers in sig....I'm running the 233/239....

Sounds like I got the setup that you're considering....

Don't worry to much over the springs...I've got them as well. I drive the car 110 miles roundtrip to work, usually at least 3 days a week.

If you have any questions, just let me know...

Springs will last longer with the 231/237 because of the slower lobes. The 233/239 will make more power, but be harder on the springs. You'll get good life out of the springs with either cam, but the 231 will last longer.

Man, PM your email and I'll send you a soundclip of that 233/239 in a 5.3.

Sounds pretty good.

Id prefer the xer lobes in the 233/239. If youre doing a lot of easy highway commute miles, the springs will last fairly long anyway. Check em after 20K miles, then check every 5K after that.

Guits you nailed it head on for me. About 80% of my drive to work is spent under 2k rpm. Straight up highway mileage. And I plan to check mine in the same manner you described.

I'm not too concerned with changing them, I knew it'd be necessary when I installed the parts I did. I've never changed a set of springs before, but I look forward to the challenge. I figure if I can install my H/C setup, surely I can change some springs out!

I have about 20,000 miles on a PRC dual spring kit (w\ torquer cam)with no problems..they will last alot longer than what most of the people on here will tell you..I let mine warm up for a few minutes every morning before I leave..good for the engines life and the springs life.. .

That's the key right there, give em a few minutes at startup and you'll be surprised at some springs' longevity.

I completely agree...got to make sure those things are a little warm before you take off and take it easy on them for the first few miles.

I let mine warm up at least 3-5 mins (on a cold start) in the summer, regardless of the temp....and even more in the winter...
