Just curious about the 243 casting heads
Is there something special about these 243 heads? I found a really good deal on some and I've heard different opinions about all the heads. I think I have 853's on mine now and I didn't want to buy these heads if they aren't any different ( flow wise ) than the ones I have. Thanks for any advice.

Personally I wouldn't bother unless they are VERY VERY cheap.
While the LS6 heads are pretty decent for OEM factory heads they are nothing special. When you factor in the cost of swapping them over (caskets, fluids, time, labour plus misc parts and maybe even a cam) it will all add up to a lot of $$$$ and they really won't make a massive bhp difference.
If you want budget heads TSP sell some CNC ported LS6 heads with bigger valves for under $1k these are much more worth while.
For me the 'stock; LS6 heads would need to be costing ~$150 to be worthwhile.

I found them for $130 and after all the pricing that I've done I think these would be good to buy and then have the valves I want put in them and ported and polished. As far as labor costs, I do my own work always have. This way not only do I learn, but it only costs me time.

A little bowl blending, making sure the transitions are smooth, port match the intake and you will have a very good flowing head. There are a lot of cnc ported heads that do not make as much horsepower as properly set up 243's. One of the magazines just dynoed a stock ls2(those are 243 heads) and it made 472 hp(flywheel) With a cam and thinner head gaskets and the above mentioned touchups you have well over 500 hp engine. I would bet that a set of after market heads would not add more than 20 hp over the 243's that I have just described. My two cents.

I think I'm going to go ahead and get them and do some work to them, then go ahead and order my cam since my headers and y will be here shortly and after all that I think I will be able to achieve my streetable yet trackworthy goals.

blue98z, if its at all in the budget i'd suggest getting those 243s CNC ported (by TSP or Patriot), its ALOT of work to do heads. i just want you to get a good gain for all of that work.
