I decided to invest in a forged shortblock..build it up and swap it with my stocker...then sell the stock 346
Here is my question..should I go for a 383 or a 408....i know that the 408 ultimately will be the better bang for the buck...but does it involve buying parts that are much more $$ than the 383...
Also..weight...408 iron...383 aluminum...correct??
Then my third question is streetability...if i go for a 408, i will complement it with a great set of heads and a cam...will i lose my weekend driveability..
THANKS

ok..i see i see...didnt know that...
ok..now how about supporting mods...are heads/cam and all that the same for the 408 as they are for the 383...wousl i want to change my pacesetters to something like a 1 7/8 header QTP or Kook...
I already have the 90/90 heard 408's LOVE that!
Any ideas on this matter?

I'd leave the headers alone, I've seen some people get 10 hp from goign to 1 7/8 headers up on teh top of teh rpm range, but nothing anywhere else, and for teh $ that it's gonna cost you, it's not really worth it. The 90/90 is praticially a must, the elec water pump will help as it will with all setups, your head choice should be similar to the 383, but you can utilize bigger valves and whatnot due to the larger bore, so something that will put that to use would be a good idea, you can also go bigger on the cam and still remain drivable.

How much do you want to spend on heads? If you are willing to spend a little money I highly reccomend ET Heads!
You will also need anagressive cam with all those cubes
FAST 90 is very good so you are set with that... I am sure you already have some sort of intake so again you are set with that....
I also highly reccomend Kooks! They are a GREAT header! 1 7/8" primaries is prob a pretty good idea.
Looks like you already have nice exhaust...
So beyond those mods you could do things like UD pulleys and an electric water pump.

TSP and HPE sell 402s. I believe W2W does as well. W2W will cost more money, but if you plan on running boost they would be the very best way to go. The AFR, ETP and Trickflow heads will cost some money, but would flow great. Esp. the ETP 245s. I think you would be fine running some CNC'd LS6 or 6.0l heads with larger valves. You could run some very large valves with a big cam and not worry about PV clearance with dished pistons. With a 6.0 or LS6 head with a larger valve I don't see why you couldn't make plenty of power.

What is the bore size on a 383?

wow so many ideas....i will not be going forced induction..thatll be my next project for sure
I am going out with the gf will be back tonight to continue this discussion!!!
I am leaning towards either the 402 or 408, because of displacement...why not..
BTW Nitrous will be added, but not during swap..maybe after if I feel like it...
soo, probably direct port...i like the system by ZEX that is made for the FAST manifold..its nice...and i woudl be able to give a healthy amount of spray to the engine..
any thoughts...please post, thanks for the replies..
