Default 128MPH CheatR/Patriot car +CA Smog=Pass

Thats right. I am so happy right now. My 128 mph trapping car just passed smog. It took me about 10 minutes to take off my N20 kit due to Crash's genius home-made solenoid mount bracket and about 5 minutes to put the factory lid and bellows back on.
It BARELY passed and didnt pass the 1st time. Heres how it went:

I drive around for 15 min to heat my cats up before pulling into the test only station with my skinnies on, passenger and rear seats removed, bottle brackets in between where the rear seats should be. To make the guy feel a little more comfortable I had my ET streets in the back along with my helmet, and white writing on the windshield from last time at the track. The guy was nervous as all hell and at one point he said my factory exhaust manifolds were aftermarket headers, but after some convincing he believed me. So he runs the test and it FAILS the low speed. Limit is 54 on HC and I had 70. The smog tech tells me to go heat up the cats and come back in an hour and we'll try again. I told the guy "Well thats not that bad, at least the readiness monitors passed" This made the guy even more nervous as while he was doing the second test he asked me why I asked him that. I told him I had heard of people failing for that a lot with this new dyno smog thingy

Ok, so I know heating my cats isnt going to help because I already did, so I had to think of something. It was close enough that I should be able to get it through, but even if I didnt I'd just buy some brand new cats (high flow) and it should go. Well anyways, I was too lazy to remove my timing tuner before the smog, I had just un mounted it and tucked it out of site behind my battery. So I took out 7 degrees of timing (max base retard) and took it back. Limit wa 54 ppm, my HC was 54ppm. Pass!!

So no we know for sure Thunders CheatR cam can pass CA smog along with the Patriot heads. This was the whole reason I chose this set-up (no de-modding) every 2 years, and now Im happy I did it. I also think this says good things about the tuning done by Rick at Synergy. Thanks Rick

Some alcohol in the tank would have done the trick!

I used to work at a shop and they wouldve overlooked anything for me, but in CA they randomly send people to "Test-Only" stations and I got unlucky enough to get chosen. The fines are so big here and even jail time is possible for the smog techs that its hard to find someone to risk it all for you. It does happen though.

Yep, at my old shop I saw someone bring a car with too much alcahol in it. The thing stank of alcahol and if I remember right it wouldnt even take the test. I think it got a sample dilution error. But I agree, the right amount of alcahol would have gotten it through.

I can't imagine having to endure a government inspection of ANY kind. Congrats on passing! Now save some $$$ and come on out to Florida. Similar weather/lifestyle, but far fewer socialist pigs, wine & cheese bistros, etc.

One good thing about Michigan. No testing on anything at all. Even back in the day where there was my buddy at the gas station would just hook a diffrent car to the machine and type in my info. No real penelty or people watching, then it just went away.
