MS4 VS Trex
another vote for the t rex. i made 463/402 to the wheels on a mustang dyno running through FLP long tubes out LM exhaust. i switched to QTP longtubes and 3" dynomax bullets dumped and made 457/396 on the same dyno. first dyno was in may when the air was cooler than the 2nd dyno..which was made in july. gears are a must...my t rex loves the 4.30s...

Nice numbers for a heads/cam car for sure on a MD. I saw his sig, but he could have listed numbers prior to heads. He did not specify. I am going to say that has to be with heads.
those numbers were on a mustang dyno, were with the heads listed in the sig and were weather corrected. the only difference was that i had 4.10s instead of the 4.30s. and i am selling this engine to do a 408 lol

no i havn't on a dyno jet yet nor have i run at the track yet. yea we had to fly cut the pistons to fit the cam in there but it runs bad ***. i'm planning on doing a 150-200 shot with the 408 once i get the motor. i dunno if the 4.30s robbed me of alot of hp or not but the car works alot better with them.
let me be the first to admit i am ignorant. please forgive, i'm learning. I understand the trex can make the most power, holds the cam only record and what not - BUT i'm not a drag racer, the closest quarter mile is 2 1/2hrs. from me. What i'm looking for is an extremely reliable setup that can still make some good numbers and most importantly some more fun behind the wheel. How are your guys' transmissions holding with these high reving cams, not to mention the stock 10 bolt which speaks for itself. What i want to do is some 'budgeted' mods. I plan on MS4, which makes more of it's power down low (so i've heard), also a 3200 or so stall, and maybe later on some heads. I'm just curious as to how everyone's cars are holding up drivetrain wise. I also plan on doing some Pacesetter Lt's with TSP true duals at the same time. Talk about a wake up for the car. is there anything i need to know before i do this - such as your stock 10 bolt will never hold, or your tranny will take a dump after XXK more miles?
why just stick to a proven cam...let the MS4 numbers come out from the track..who knows what will happen. Just research the damn thing, contact TSP see if they have any track numbers yet...etc..etc... Im sure it was the same way when the T-Rex first hit the market.
my friend just got the ms4 cam when all of us suggested that he get the ms3...once again a proven cam. he wants to add heads eventually so we'll see if that turns into a nightmare or not. now..i had to flycut to make my h/c work so i'll be interested to see how it goes with a .649 lift or whatever the hell it is

I just read a magazine, I believe the latest GM High-Tech and the MS4 made awesome power in an LS1. They picked up 82 hp on a stock headed LS1. It was a safe tune on 91 octane. I believe it will ultimately be a more street-oriented T-Rex type camshaft. It has potential, people just need to put to the test at the track. In the end just pick what works with the sum of your parts.

I gained 40rwhp with Stock Heads and Stock Exhaust Manifolds + ORY and borlamouth. It dynoed 385rwhp. I'm installing longtubes this weekend so I will see how much more I will pick up. But I'm figuring on around 20rwhp from the headers alone so that would put me in the 405rwhp+plus watever the cam will gain from better exhaust considering that right now my car is severely limited exhaust wise since the MS4 has quite a bit of overlap (though not as must as the Trex). I didn't vote but I'll do after I can post a graph. As far as drivability is concerned it drives pretty good, I've driven it to work a few times with no issues although I'm still tweaking my idle tuning. Right now the car idles at 950rpms once I get surging better under control I might go even lower. It sounds wicked at 800-825rpms.
I have been doing research on the MS4 and I am seriously considering it. I just think it would be a good choice for me because my firebird is heavy. I have heard and seen nothing but good thing from it. Nice numbers without headers bro.
I haven't seen any good track times from it yet, I'm sure they will come though hopefully. Those are good numbers without headers and your right about picking up another 20 when you put them in, Congrats!
